Big Bad Day

Virtually every Hip-hop blog I read is dedicating all or most of today's content to the 10th anniversary of the day when The Notorious B.I.G. was murdered.

This relates to KC only in the sense that this town is in the middle of a gang war in which undoubtedly the soundtrack is comprised of hip-hop. Also, the lives of young Black men are regularly taken in a hail of bullets on the Eastside while it's enlightening to see that 10 years later there will be little or no progress in "solving" this situation.

Full Disclosure: I was never much of a Biggie fan but my brother is and through him I realized how many people were really, truly devoted to the guy's music. Personally, I was always a fan of Tupac because a dancer turning himself into a gangsta through the power of music is post-modernism at its best!!!

Anyway, here are the best links I could find on the subject of this sad day:

  • B.I.G. Words and B.I.G. Thoughts

  • Ten Years Later - A bunch of links by Bol

  • We'll always love Big Poppa at Oh Word! Also, it's sad to see the Tall Israeli media jack a small time Jewish hip-hop blogger . . . It's a cruel world people.

  • "Like Butter Played Toast" - Great thoughts and a bunch of Biggie's sampled tracks posted at Biochemical Slang.
