A quick story on KMBC detailed how four kids were put into state custody because their parents couldn't avoid codes violations. On the face of it, I understand that having messy neighbors is more than an annoynace but the more I see "Codes Violations" used in this town, the more I'm convinced that they are almost entirely based on race and socio-economic factors.
For instance, yuppie and hippie structures are allowed to stall and halfway completed structures will occupy space for months at a time while they're looking for speculative investors in order to make a gamble but when a house is obviously occupied by po'folk and the neighborhood is "in play" by people who are looking to make a quick buck then the codes violations come with a quickness . . . I'm not making any indictments here but anyone who has lived in a "transitional" neighborhood in this town has seen it for themselves . . . My solution: Po'folk need to know that a lawnmower could be the most important investment they ever make OR they need to devise some kind of camps and train rides out of town for people unable to afford luxury living space . . . Because they're obviously no longer welcome in Kansas City.
couldn't avoid codes violations or didn't give a shit about codes violations? if the house was deemed unsafe for occupancy then the kids shouldn't be living there in the first place. we have neighbors with mountains of garbage in their yard because they are too lazy to put the shit on the curb. that mountain of trash attracts disease ridden 'possums and raccoons which have been known in my neighborhood to get into homes. a family on my street moved out of their rental home because a raccoon got in and was sleeping in the same bed as their son. i believe once you are giving a violation notice you have 30 days to fix said violation or pay a fine. 30 days seems like a reasonable amount of time to me.
