No matter what, my mama has always been one of my "hometown heroes"

During Hispanic Heritage Month KCPT profiled a number local Latinos for a series entitled "Hometown Heros," Rita Valenciano was one of them. I liked it a lot more than the small profile she received today in The Star.

If you look very closely, for a second there's a shot of me in there as well on a rare day when I decided to take a shower.

As the election approaches, it's easy to get some kind of false sense of finality but I'm comforted by the thought that my mom has a long history of activism in this city and her community involvement will continue no matter how the election turns out . . . In much the same way that I'll most likely never stop being such a dumbass.

  1. You can dish it out but you can't take a dose of your own medicine. You are truly a sad individual.

  2. I sign my stuff, just want you to sign yours. And I'd also like to thank you for proving that the sign-in thing wouldn't stop negative comments. Which I don't mind as much as you think.

    Muchas Gracias

  3. Your mother could have done you much better if she had kicked you out of the house when you were 18.

  5. Yea right, Tony. You've never posted anonymously to your own blog.

I'm still just as anonymopus with a silly name. We'll see how many others are willing to go through the steps to publish a comment to your tirades.

  7. ah Tony. You prevaricate. We all know that you don't admire anything but your own ego.

  8. That's one of the odd things about some candidates - they act like their ideas can only come to life if they are elected. If they are the kind of people they should be, they will stay involved and work for positive change whether they are elected or not. And I'm sure your mother is one of those who will do so. My support of Beth is a positive thing, not a slam on your mother, whom I've met and think is a fine person.

On the commenting issue, I've been fortunate to dodge any major problems with obnoxious commenters. I get some spam comments, but I don't care, because they usually show up on old posts.

What? You've banned Tony from your blog?

  10. Of course, Dan, the lack of obnoxious comments to your site has a lot more to do with the fact that you don't go out of your way to be patently offensive just to be patently offensive.
