Kansas City looked like Mordor for a day

The local media has their say about the story . . . Franky, I don't believe for one second that that there is no environmental or health risk from a bunch of chemicals burning in the air . . . But I doubt we'll know for about 10 to 20 years if ever.

So while I'll probably compile some local media links regarding the story, what's more (to me) is what the locals had to say.

Here's the best of what I could find:

BEST PHOTOS OF THE DESTRUCTION from local blogger Scooter J: Kablooey

Another pretty picture by Professor Hex

All the way from Israel an obvious question arises: Why do they build these things so close to large population centers?

Blog KC has a nice straight forward roundup of the events.

I liked Pom's pictures from up close.

What everybody is thinking summed up nicely and not contained in press releases from government agencies or businesses involved in the event: "I guess it will take a few years to find out if that thick black chemical goodness in our air actually is toxic (the chemical plant superintendent claims it is not) and everyone in the NE grows two heads and has a chronic cough."

Terror In The Heartland!

Local news guy Laz has some great photos as well from all over the scene.

Finally, here's a post from a blogger who worked near the explosion as she notes that the scene looked "Just like Mordor!"

  2. Like children agog over a pile of shiny new toys. Grow up.

Tony, please explain your credentials to make statements concerning the environmental and health hazards that may be caused by this accident.

You are nothing better than the local news media. "If it bleeds it leads."

    Hypocrite.

  4. The site is on fire again, and there also appears to be a new large fire burning north of the river, too.

  5. I'm just glad everybody got out unharmed. That must have been some track meet when those poor employees saw that tank about to blow!
