My Uncle is a great guy and knows a lot of stuff, he recently e-mailed me and told me a few more things that I didn't know already . . .
Apparently, he noticed that the flags had been lowered for Lamar Hunt at City Hall on Friday. He called and asked why and was told that the Mayor and City Manager had given the order.
Well, and all Veterans know this, the only person to give the authority to lower the flag at government buildings is the President who then tells the governor who in turn lets others know. Here is a link regarding etiquette related to the flag that proves his point.
With soldiers still serving and dying in Iraq, with so many veterans who have served their country living in KC, in my opinion, this improper display by City Hall was a slap in the face to those folks as Mayor Kay and City Manager Wayne Cauthen seemingly wrote their own rules in order to honor a billionaire sports team owner. I don't think that I'm the only person that might feel that way either as this careless act is yet another example of the misguided priorities at City Hall.
I've watched the City Council violate its own rules, and nobody even notices.
ReplyDeleteWhen it's pointed out, nothing happens.
a better use of priorities would be to catch Mexicans stealing hubcaps.
ReplyDeleteThis Friday's honor was also meant to commemorate the passing of jazz pianist Jay McShann.
ReplyDeleteI actually heard about this on the radio and was thinking the same thing.
ReplyDeleteIt's for Hunt *and* Jay McShann. The notice is posted on the front of the city's web site, www.kcmo.org
ReplyDeleteI noticed it too and wondered who of national importance had died!
ReplyDeleteI usually disagree with stuff like lowering the flag for people (like Buck O'Neal), but of all the people around, Lamar Hunt has put Kansas city on the map of the country. It's not just football, but his huge development around the city (from the dozens of commercial properties and dozens of subdivisions that house tens of thousands of residents - to places like worlds of fun or the subtrpolis).
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say that of all the people our flag is lowered for - Hunt truely deserves it.
