In great local economic news, GM recently announced a $208 million investment in the Fairfax assembly plant.
GM officials, representatives from the United Auto Workers union, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Rep. Dennis Moore D-Kan., and Mayor Joe Reardon attended Monday's announcement at the plant. That's a pretty big investment, even considering the fact that GM bonds are now rated as "junk". Still, it's nice to see more economic opportunity opening up for the locals with only bad management or the Japanese and their awesome cars to blame if the thing goes sour.
"This investment is a testament to the hard work of the Fairfax employees, the UAW and local and state elected officials to make the plant and business environment competitive," Larry Zahner, GM North America manufacturing manager, said in a news release.
