Higher minimum wage really means higher prices in Missouri

The upcoming boost in Missouri's minimum wage has some small-business owners frowning and could mean scattered layoffs and higher prices at some restaurants, particularly in rural areas.

  1. Don't blame me, I voted against it, naturally.

I'm baffled that it was even on a ballot. This is a matter for the state legislature, or the city governments. I understand ballot initiatives for constitutional amendments, but not to change state law. That's just weird.

But, it goes to show that THERE IS NO FREAKING NEED FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SET A MINIMUM WAGE WHEN STATES ARE PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT THEMSELVES!!!

  2. Be careful to invoke "states rights." That originated in the South as the planters wanted the federal government to not interfere in the slave trade. All states rights' movements have been white supremacist in origin and nature. But I digress...

This is an unfortunate part of our economy; that general increases in wages sometimes mean a rise in prices, but there are groups out there who challenge this logic, particularly the Economic Policy Institute. Check the below piece out for an example.

It is okay to not fall on either side of this issue, but ridiculous to oppose this increase, especially if you are a worker. Rather we should be thinking about what is at the bottom of the general struggle of working people across the globe: self-control and management of society.
