Normally, I hate hanging out with other writers. For the most part, we're a whinny bunch of people who are only interested in our own success . . . It wasn't until I started hanging out with people in other professions when I realized that this applies to everyone.
Still, I guess it's important to have a sense of community . . . If only to make reading the obituaries more interesting.
In that respect, The Writers Place is a great resource. Currently, they are collecting information for a regional directory of freelance writers scheduled to be published in January. While I'm sure that you could use the listings in any local S&M message board as a cross reference (writers love abuse) I guess the directory format is a tad more professional. Here is some more information and be sure to sign up if that kind of thing is your bag . . . Participating in a community of writers, not S&M - at least not officially.
