On the street in KC

In this great photo essay, the author of the local blog "The Flogging of America" reports quite a few interesting things she learned on the streets of Kansas City. Here are the highlights:
  • Graffiti artists in KC need to work harder. Bus stop signage lacks originality and skill. In this case, low paid Mexican labor is no competition with a few Puerto Ricans with a bad attitude and a can of spray paint.

  • Grinders attracts hipsters like moths to a flame. This is either excellent target marketing or some grand plan to round up the liberal base with pizza, beer, loud music and a low rent exhibit of bad tattoos.

  • Public transportation stops running way too early in KC. There should be options other than hitching a ride with the KCPD and having your mom/significant other/only friend with bail money pick you up.

  • Rumor has it Mel Soloman was 'asked to leave' the Brookside Art Fair. We all know politics in KC can be an ugly business . . . But is it possible that Soloman's desperate public pandering for votes is so aesthetically displeasing that he was sanctioned for it? If not, the image of the old man getting hurried away from a crowd full of middle class people in the market for something that matches their sofa art buyers might still qualify as absurdist.

Not a rumor. Solomon got the boot for hassling art patrons within the ropes at the Brookside Art Fair. You would think he would figure out that being the only politician there was kind of an indicator that he was being a douchebag, but oh well. Instead of slinking off in shame, he set up across the street in front of the CVS drug store. Either he's persistent or he wanted to be close to his supply of Metamucil and Depends.

Solomon's supporters weren't the only ones asked to leave the Art Fair. They were told that they could go across the street from the Art Fair, which they did.
