UMKC and Black Kansas City

This is a great report from KC Currents. Don Matthews the director of the Black Studies Department says that UMKC suffers from institutional racism and relations between the Black community and the local University are in crisis. I'm in total agreement and I can think of two ways that we can immediately work toward fixing the problem:

1. Eliminate the Black Studies Department and try teaching something that might actually help college students attain employment.

b. Bullet Proof Vest Day on Campus. The residents of the East Side would probably appreciate it and it would be welcomed outreach for a professor that has a steady gig, respect, probably a nice office and the balls to bitch about "institutional" racism.

The last time I checked, there were more Mexicans doing the lawn than attending UMKC. And we all know that you basically have to be an Asian Einstein to go far in Higher Ed considering how clumsily affirmative action quotas are implemented. However, in this current climate the professor's frustrations and complete lack of consideration regarding other minority communities (primarily Latinos) are probably reflective of the general feeling that many Black people have toward Mexicans . . . Mainly, that they hate them.

  1. i was just looking at some of your older posts, and you are wild'n out on Black Studies at UMKC saying they need to drop the class and also blacks hate Mexicans/latinos. I hope you were joking. I feel like Blacks and Latinos get along pretty well to a certain degree. I feel as if we both understand the struggle and racial turmoil that we have to deal with on an everyday, so we try to join together. Also on another note there are plenty Afro-latinos too, so I think we as people of color have an understanding.
