How can Missouri create a permanent underclass?

Here's a start: Undocumented immigrants could soon be barred from attending public universities and colleges in Missouri under a bill the House gave initial approval to Tuesday.

Profit from their cheap labor. Take their money to fund Social Security. But don't let them try and make any advancement in this society. You might as well beg for a criminal class.

Additionally, I'd like to meet the pollster who figured out that the Republicans didn't need the conservative Latino vote. Big mistake. Huge. And please don't show me any made-up poll from Zogby because you would be arguing with a conservative Latino who has voted for and supported a great many Republican candidates . . . Previously. Seriously, whoever came up with this wedge issue stance over immigration never took into account the horribly long memories of Latinos. Heard anything from Jack Kemp lately? Also, Krazy Kris Kobach must not look at the demographics citing the many rich Latinos in JoCo who still have enough cajones to vote against him and will most likely continue to do so.

  1. Um, I think you might have missed this sentence, Tony: "Federal law already bars undocumented immigrants from attending public universities."

  2. By recognizing that sentence Tony wouldn't be able to blame every white person in the surrounding area for the problems of people that don't take the proper steps to get student visas, silly. Plus, when has Tony ever let fact get in the way of the bull shit he spews?

  3. Good looking out both of you. I just now read the article now and the first dude is 100% correct. But I'm still not gonna vote for the KKK. In this instance, as in most, I am full of shit and the most important opinion is the one you formulate for yourself . . . You won't hear that on talk radio.

However, I don't really care about people who get student visas since they are rarely Mexican. Mexicans are too smart for school.

  4. Federal law does not bar undocumented immigrants from attending public universities. Just because Missouri legislators say it doesn't mean it's true.

Here's the whole quote from the story:
"Opponents pointed out that federal law already bars undocumented immigrants from attending public universities, but Nolte said the federal prohibition had not proved to be an impediment to those entering the country illegally."

Those "opponents" are wrong, as far as I understand; in Kansas, Kobach is arguing that it's against federal law to provide in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants, but that's been thrown out by a federal judge. I've seen the law Kobach is talking about and it is actually not clear, and will be clarified on behalf of undocumented students if the DREAM act passes in Congress.

  5. I believe that federal law actually says that you the govenment can't provide a benefit to an illegal alien that they don't provide to citizens.

Regardless, if someone wants to cross the Rio Grande, run through a desert, and get to Kansas City to work in a kitchen or mowing grass, that is one seriously motivated, hard working guy, as far as I'm concerned, welcome to America.

  6. I'd call Kris Kobach a local version of George Wallace but he'd be flattered. Conservatives love illegals when they need a new roof on their mcmansions and cheap landscaping. Those meatpacking and other jobs did actually sustain generations of Americans until today's Republicans and their forebears decided that those folks didn't deserve health care benefits and a livable wage.

How ironic that now the anti-immigrant bashing seems to revolve around the effects on public health care and education.

Some idiot letter-writer in the Star suggested that illegals should have to do two years military service. This must be the guy who still believes George W. Bush served his country honorably in the Reserves ... 'cos folks like W & Cheney don't fight this country's wars. That's probably part of the appeal of that permanent underclass that conservatives are trying to create ... keep 'em out of public schools so that all they'll be able to do is enlist.
