One last thing

Just to make sure that I don't leave a dead horse unbeaten I'd like to point out that David Smith's discriminatory practices are set to go into high gear with the selection of a new Superintendent. There is already a backlash in the local Latino community that could culminate during the next School Board Meeting. Here is a preview of what might be said:
The leader of one civic group already has challenged Smith’s role.

Rita Valenciano is president of the board of directors for the Coalition of Hispanic Organizations. In an "As I See It" column published Thursday in The Kansas City Star, Valenciano wrote that Smith should step away from the superintendent search after a Jackson County jury earlier this month determined that Smith, as president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, had wrongfully fired a manager after she said his hiring practices were racist. Smith is black.

Interviewed Friday, Valenciano said, "As a Hispanic community, our concern is we don’t feel that we have been heard or well served by this district. Not in hiring in education or in contracting."
While School Board Meetings are usually just a farce, the opposition to Smith from the Hispanic community seems to be serious if only because it could be the largest group of Latinos to participate in the KC School District for something other than dropping out.

  1. Why not hire someone from the kansas city area. I am sure there are qualified individual in the kansas city area. They would have a vested interest in the schools.

Do any of the school broad members have children enrolled in kc schools, or do they go to private schools?

  2. I always love a "school broad," don't you?

Anon. can look up their creds at

All I know is that the Burnett kids didn't go to public school here. There is that funny disconnect between those who run a service (educated, involved, something or other) and those who use it, the "regular parents."

Then there are the Bob Stringfield types who go from school board to county legislature to. . .

ps - v. funny to quote ms. valenciano.
