Lee's Summit's city staff wants to reject tax assistance for a $536 million retail project called City Walk & Village.
A report to be discussed tonight by the Lee's Summit Downtown Economic Stimulus Authority says the staff does not recommend spending an estimated $175 million in public money. The money would pay to relocate businesses, upgrade roads and cover other costs. It's important to carefully plan development near Lee's Summit because you never know what kind of impact rush hour traffic and games at the Sports Complex will have on plans for economic growth. There's nothing like a traffic jam that puts people out of the mood to go shopping.
