The NFL has fined Gunther Cunningham $5,000 for flipping the bird as the Chiefs lost to Dallas last Sunday. For some reason, the local television news is blurring out his hand because your eyes are much to sensitive to see something on TV that you view daily on your commute to work. None of that bullshit here, if you're grown up enough to watch a team full of woman beaters and all kinds of reprobates than you can handle somebody giving the finger.
While the Chiefs front office is playing down the mini-controversy, I think they should fight it. Gunther might have just been showing what place in which the Chiefs will never finish, or Larry Johnson's IQ, or the people who really respect Trent Green, or how many touchdowns the Chiefs will lose by in all the games during the remainder of the season. Or maybe not.
What this gesture does prove is that you should tell your kids that these guys are creeps, they aren't heroes, they aren't role models and they aren't anybody you would want to hang around if they weren't overpaid Prima donnas that our society has decided to reward for abusing their bodies and providing public displays of violence. And I like football, I just never had any illusions that it was anything more than a business.
How about the column by Jeffrey Flannigan in the Star, where he called the photo "obviously" doctored, then the next day talked about how the Chiefs were admitting it was true...all with a "boys will be boys" aura. Just another example of how the Star's sports staff are lapdogs to this team.
