Jackson County Exec LeVota Denies Bribery & Fraud Indictment

The courthouse becomes AN EVEN BIGGER CLOWN SHOW after the election by way of serious federal charges and a glimpse at life in and around 12th & Oak.

Voters would be safe to assume that just about every elected official at the courthouse is wearing a wire.

So far, this is the best explanation and reporting on the drama that's worth sharing . . . 

He's facing federal bribery and fraud charges and is accused of offering county government jobs to convince a candidate to drop out of the executive's race in 2026. 

However, during his press conference following his initial court hearing, LeVota said "Individual 1" was Jackson County Legislator Daron McGee.

The indictment alleges that between March 16 and March 31, LeVota took multiple steps intended to persuade the candidate to leave the race. 

A few hours after pleading not guilty, LeVota addressed the allegations during a press conference at the court house.

“I have now been charged with offering a job in exchange for (Daron) McGee withdrawing from the county executive race. I categorically deny that allegation.”

LeVota said he discussed future employment with McGee and his legislative assistant.

But he denied those jobs were offered in exchange for McGee dropping out.

“I did clearly specify I would find a job for him and his legislative assistant that he asked about in any future administration if I decided to run," he said. "“At no point did I suggest, ask, or imply that Mr. McGee should withdraw from the race in exchange for a job."

LeVota, while maintaining his innocence, apologized to Jackson County.

“I’m sorry, the people of Jackson County, that here’s another stain against county government, but I’m confident that I’m not the person making that stain,” he said.
