A new pool entirely would need to be built on the site and raised several feet. This would cost an estimated $27 million.
Currently, city leaders indicated that they are saving up Parks funds to support the effort. However, there have also been separate discussions about the addition of an outdoor pool by the nearby Southeast Community Center - which already has an indoor pool.
Mayor Lucas noted that the second option would cost around $11 million, but it is not currently in any budget plans. The addition would resemble that of the new Tony Aguirre Center outdoor pool.
City leaders noted that there are also other factors to consider, such as the pool’s history.
