Kansas City Collects Piddly Cash From Short-Term Rental Owners

Credit where it's due . . . 

The newspaper does a bit of accounting work and reports that the "crackdown" on so many tech rental houses isn't earning enough cash to make a dent. 

Sure, there are a couple of stories about small-timers leaving the game . . . But the corporate trend is much bigger than operators with one or two properties.

Here's the most important info about the totals . . .

"Although fines are mounting, most so far have been small, less than $300. The city reported it found records of 99 short-term rental violation cases filed in municipal court between May 1, 2023 and August 12, 2024. Of those, a collective $4,400 had been assessed in 24 cases. Of that, the city reported, only $2,312. 50 of fines have so far been paid. 

Arrest warrants have been issued for defendants who have not shown up for court."
