Over the years pundits have long noted the "political shift" of the most populous suburb in Kansas but few people talk about HOW it happened.
Most locals often assume that nicer suburban life merely attracted local workers hoping to enjoy the benefit of better schools and safer neighborhoods. For the most part that's probably correct.
However . . .
The history of the world has taught us that "DEMOGRAPHICS IS DESTINY" or at least overcoming population issues likely requires nuclear weapons and the ability to launch tech drone wars to counter the truism.
But I digress . . .
Here's a peek at the mechanics of population shifts powered by subsidy enjoyed by the plebs that still doesn't match so many corporate giveaways . . .
"Individuals have until Wednesday to register early for housing vouchers. Then applications will be accessible starting at 9:00 a.m. on July 31. It’s part of what Johnson County calls the housing choice voucher program. Right now, Johnson Countians can log onto the county’s housing services website to create an account.
"Johnson County will accept up to 600 applicants this year to receive vouchers that will cover up to 60 to 70% of rent and utility fees. Even the housing service director acknowledged this won’t go far enough to meet demand. They’re also still processing applicants from last year when they accepted 1,000 applicants into the program."

Finding affordable housing in Johnson County can be a struggle, but the Housing Services Department has a new way to help individuals find quality rental units with assistance.
