Councilman Johnathan Duncan represents Kansas City's 6th City Council District and, obviously, his constituents remain on edge after the brutal killing of beloved Irish Fest chef Shaun Brady.
Because in-District council members are elected officials most directly connected local neighborhoods. We think it's important to highlight his perspective that might have escaped scrutiny amid conversation about the impact of a tragic crime that dominated headlines this week.

Given the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS this town and the state spend in counseling, public health, job training and a myriad of social services . . . We're not sure his math adds up.
However . . .
It's important to understand the argument of Kansas City's most prolific progressive on council . . .
"Kansas City is under-resourced. We’ve funded our police and punishment centers, but we have failed to sufficiently fund our lack of shelter, mental health & substance abuse treatment & outreach for our adults and our youth. We are seeing the results of that lack of investment."
Here's what seems like the councilman's answer to those who believe more support for law enforcement and consequences might help the situation . . .
"People want immediate justice and solutions to these problems now. The truth is justice looks like ensuring our people have their needs met & investing in our youth so they have the proper shelter, nourishment, and education to be the leaders we need to move our city forward."
