To be fair . . .
Beyond the hype we have to wait and see if Kansas politicos can get anything accomplished in the not-so-special session . . . The reality is that Sunflower State politicos might already be taking heat for prioritizing incentives over tax cuts promised to voters coping with inflation.
Here's the perspective from the Kansas City side of the state line . . .
Jackson County's financial support for a Chiefs stadium project still may come from a new sales tax if voters approve a team-specific ballot question. Such a measure would be untethered from plans for a Kansas City Royals ballpark in the East Crossroads, which would have received half the proceeds of a three-eighths-cent sales tax county voters shot down by a landslide 58.1% to 41.9% margin on April 2.
County Executive Frank White Jr. has said he would be willing to explore a Chiefs-only ballot measure later this year. He told KCTV5 on Thursday that his office has exchanged letters with the Chiefs but would need to talk more — and the team would need to understand "what they need to do to get the people excited (about) voting for another 25-, 30-, 40-year tax" — before coming to terms on a new deal.
