KC Tenants Campaign Fundraising Report: Hope Or Hype?!?

Remember that candidates from the KC Tenants protest group were trumpeted by no less than the New York Times when a couple of their members announced election efforts.

Now, at long last, there is an objective gauge of their influence.

Here's what we've learned from their first foray into Kansas City election season . . .

KC Tenants candidates performed respectably.

The biggest surprise so far . . .

Jenay Manley is running for the 2nd District At-Large and she is LEADING her opponents in fundraising by a wide margin with $25K on hand at the end of the January reporting period.

Ms. Manley has more than a fighting shot against insider Lindsay French who has former councilmember Scott Wagner working as her campaign treasurer.

Similarly . . .

Johnathan Duncan is competitive but didn't do quite so well with a little less than $14K on hand to end January. Former Jackson County Legislator Dan Tarwater is the likely front runner in the 6th District race and so far he has amassed around $37K.

One last note . . .

The KC Tenants Power political action committee listed $40,000 spent on the recent GO Bond effort which, like it or not, now makes the protest group one of the more important players in this KCMO election cycle.

Accordingly . . .

These are competitive fundraising numbers provide a verifiable indication that KC Tenants are willing to hit the streets and raise money in addition to their prolific protesting.

Developing . . .
