Woman dies in shooting near Stoney Creek Hotel in Independence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One person died in a shooting Saturday near the Stoney Creek Hotel in Independence, Missouri. The Independence Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 10:56 a.m. at 18011 East Bass Pro Drive.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A shooting in the 9800 block of Donnelly Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, left one person with life-threatening injuries Friday. Officers reported to the area just before 3 p.m. The victim, identified by police as a teen boy, was transported to an area hospital.


Man accused of using AR-style pistol to kill victim at Independence apartment after party

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City, Missouri, man faces a second degree murder charge for a fatal shooting at the end of a party at an Independence apartment. Vyshon Wilson, 18, also is charged in Jackson County Court with armed criminal action. Independence police were sent to an apartment on a reported shooting about 2 a.m.

Overland Park man sentenced to 103 years in prison in rape case

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Johnson County, Kansas, judge Friday sentenced an Overland Park man to 103 years in prison in connection to a 2022 rape case. Jason Landreth, 45, will serve the next 1,236 months in prison without the chance of parole after he pleaded guilty last October to one count of rape and one count of aggravated force by sodomy.


62-year-old inmate dies at Lansing Correctional Facility

LANSING, Kan. - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Kansas Department of Corrections are investigating a homicide that occurred Friday night at the Lansing Correctional Facility. The Correctional facility was contacted by the KBI just after 9:30 p.m. on Friday to report the suspicious death of a resident.


Independence police asking for help to find man wanted for second-degree murder in December homicide, considered armed and dangerous

The Independence, Missouri Police Department is asking for help to locate a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting investigation. Police are looking for 18-year-old Vyshon D. Wilson.Police said detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for second-degree murder and armed criminal action against Wilson in connection with the Dec.


Former KC mob member convicted of murder-for-hire ordered free on compassionate release

A man convicted of arranging "a mob murder" and sentenced to life in federal prison was ordered free Friday after being granted compassionate release. John A. Mandacina, 76, has terminal lung cancer and doctors have told him he has less than six months to live, according to a motion filed in December.
