Kansas City Builders Warn: Progressive Council Raise Home Costs

Recent environmentally friendly building code updates have ignited worsening debate amongst construction leaders in Kansas City.

We warned about the consequences of this local green new deal back in May but locals didn't mount enough opposition to the plan.

What's worse . . .

EFFETE COUNCIL PROGS ERIC BUNCH & ANDREA BOUGH CHAMPIONED THIS LEGISLATION THAT WON'T DO ANYTHING BUT MAKE KANSAS CITY HOMES MORE EXPENSIVE AND EVEN FURTHER OUT OF REACH FOR MOST PEOPLE!!!

Apparently, saving the planet involves crushing the American dream.

Thankfully, AOC tells us that we only have to endure about 12 more years of this nonsense

Now, here's a peek at the consequences . . .

The Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City decried the council's decision to pass the 2021 IECC codes without amendments. A Friday statement from the KCBHA said that its message has remained consistent throughout months of discussion leading up to Thursday's 9-4 vote.

"Kansas City cannot afford the unamended 2021 IECC. A willful vote to create a higher barrier to homeownership, particularly during this time of sky high inflation, unreliable supply chains, extreme labor shortages and higher interest rates that already make new housing supply difficult to attain, demonstrates where housing affordability truly lies on the list of city priorities.

"The focused, persistent advocacy by not only the KCHBA but also by individuals, companies and organizations from every facet of the construction industry including commercial, multifamily, labor and trades, was ultimately heard and understood by the first and second district members of the Council and we are grateful that they saw through the misinformation used to justify the adoption of an economically unjustifiable building code.

"In the months leading up to the effective date, the KCHBA, with your help, will work to mitigate the harm this code will have on home buyers in KCMO."

KC City Council, home builders association at odds over 2021 IECC building code update - Kansas City Business Journal

A new building code that will take effect July 1 will rewrite part of the rulebook for builders and developers in Kansas City. Here's why the city's first building code update in 10 years is winning both praise and condemnation.

Council passes International Energy Conservation Code standards for new developments

The City Council passed new standards for building development to align with the International Energy Conservation Code. The passing of these codes delivers upon a June 2020 commitment by the City Council to prioritize climate action and update building codes that were last approved in 2012.
