Kansas City Leaders Cling To COVID Crackdown Despite Voter Fatigue

As of late we notice that even "Blue State" leaders are pushing back against COVID crackdowns yet, locally, our cowtown politicos are backing more mask & vaxx requirements along with continued social distancing.

Just a few examples . . .

Again, Mayor Q is staying far away from the public for his state of the city speech today.

Roeland Park & Prairie Village decided to mask up until March.

Moreover . . .

COVID masks are required for everyone on public transit throughout the Kansas City metro.

And so we ask . . .

IS KANSAS CITY BEHIND THE TIMES IN REPEALING COVID RESTRICTIONS OR SHOULD LOCAL LEADERS REMAIN CAUTIOUS?!?

Honestly, TKC doesn't have an opinion here given that the Delta & Omicron variants proved that COVID have the potential to devastate locals and crowd hospitals.

Brazen bad advice cost many vulnerable people their lives in 2021 when they should have been more cautiously avoiding the plague.

As always, we remind readers that they SHOULD NOT accept medical advice from d-bags in the comments.

Our question is political and merely cites trends that we're noticing amid the quickly shifting discourse.

Blue state leaders herald end to COVID restrictions: The Note

The end of COVID, whatever that might mean, will not be determined by declarations of elected leaders or candidates for office. But Democratic officials who have long endorsed and upheld strict COVID restrictions are starting to change their tunes and their official guidance -- often in ways that put them at odds with the Biden administration's recommendations.

Fauci says 'full blown' COVID-19 pandemic is almost over in US

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser for President Biden, said in an interview published Tuesday that the U.S. is almost past the "full-blown" pandemic phase of the coronavirus and said he hopes that all virus-related restrictions could wind down in a few months.

CDC director says it's not time to change mask guidance

The head of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is standing by the agency's mask guidelines, emphasizing Tuesday that now is not the time to change the recommendations or loosen restrictions aimed at preventing Covid-19.

New infections dropping fast; indoor mask mandates ease across US -- too soon?: Latest COVID updates

The pace of new coronavirus cases in the United States has fallen by more than two-thirds from its peak just weeks ago, Johns Hopkins University data shows. Still, the nation is logging 1.86 million cases a week -- an average of 265,000 a day -- and about 2,500 COVID-19 deaths continue to be reported daily.

The Memo: Biden caught between CDC and Democratic governors on COVID-19

Four states, all of which have Democratic governors, have announced in recent days that they are going to lift mask mandates for schools. Separately, deep-blue California is going to end its policy of requiring vaccinated people to mask while indoors next week.

This note is surprising from one of the most progressive publications in the nation . . .

Will a mask protect me even if no one else is wearing one?

States across the U.S. are moving to end some indoor mask mandates as Covid-19 cases from the omicron-fueled surge continue to subside. California, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Oregon and others are rethinking mask mandates for public spaces and schools, as many Americans say they are tired of masking indoors.
