Kansas City Council reinstates mask mandate for schools amid surge in COVID-19 cases

As COVID-19 cases continue climbing in the Kansas City metro - and with rising concerns over keeping schools open for in-person learning - the city council voted Thursday to reinstate mask mandates for students, faculty and staff in Kansas City school buildings.


Despite parent pleas, Johnson County does not issue mask mandate for all students K-12

Masks will continue to be required for elementary-aged kids in Johnson County, something started in August with a Public Health Order. And, despite pleas from parents and medical professionals, they'll continue to simply recommend masks in middle and high schools.On Thursday, six Johnson County Commissioners sat with plexiglass dividers between them.

Masks required for all students in Lee's Summit School District through Feb. 3

LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -- Masks are returning to the Lee's Summit School District effective Friday through Feb. 3. The vote was 6-1. Now, masks will be required for all students beginning on Friday. Since returning back to class this week, 247 students have tested positive for COVID-19 and 406 students were "close contacts" to a positive case.


UG Public Health Department strongly recommends return of mask mandate

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, Public Health Department shared alarming COVID-19 statistics Thursday night and strongly recommended the return of a mask mandate. Medical experts shared those numbers at a special session of the Board of County Commissioners.
