A clever Kansas City political turnabout deserves attention because if Mayor Q pulls it off he just might be a political genius.
However . . .
Pro-police arguments from 12th & Oak might strike some locals as disingenuous.
We'll let readers decide . . .
MAYOR Q DEMANDS MORE COPS AND SALARY INCREASES IN HIS LATEST TWEET!!!
Here's the word . . .
"Tomorrow we have our monthly Board of Police Commissioners meeting. Very simply, the Board should finally approve officer pay increases for the first time in three years. With that budget item resolved, we then need to address violent crime challenges that seem to be spiking now"
On the surface, we don't disagree with the policy statement whatsoever.
However, as always, this argument deserves a bit of context . . .
The Mayor has fought bitterly with KCPD for more than a year. He has marched in the street shouting "no justice, no peace" with violent protesters and he recently FAILED to oust the top cop before Christmas. In fact, as we've noted in one of our most popular posts of the year . . . Mayor Q has been defined by his anti-police agenda.
And so we ask . . .
DO YOU TRUST MAYOR Q'S ADVOCACY FOR MORE COPS AND BETTER PAY?!?!
The outcome would be welcomed but we're not sure Mayor Q what to think of Mayor Q attempting to co-opt this longstanding argument.
Maybe it's a turning point for better cooperation betwixt city hall & the police department . . . Maybe Mayor Q has finally decided to support so many locals who think "defund" is a bad idea.
You decide . . .
