Kansas City Faith Blogger Considers Consequences Of Religious Ideas

The former newsman turned blogger shares a worthwhile quick guide for evaluating any notion . . .

"Learn self-critical thinking, which means being able to challenge various interpretations of ideas, particularly theological ones, without dismissing them as stupid or irrelevant."

Religious ideas can be both generative and dangerous

Religion has shown itself capable of producing beauty, comfort, enlightenment, healing acts, generosity, compassion, mercy, justice and love. The bad news is that it also has shown itself capable of producing pain, suffering, war, prejudice, anger, violence and blind hatred....

  4. Lots of people alrady have tried "self-critical thinkng" about religion, that's why the majority of Americans have no religious affiliations, and/or beliefs.

    1. 8:42 it is not true that the majority of Americans have no religious affiliations or beliefs. Read something besides the stuff they feed you at the KANSAS CITY ATHEIST COALITION HATE GROUP.

  5. I noticed a picture of Jesus so I want to point out that Christianity is not a religion it's a faith, and no one pushes it on to anyone else. What the liberal left wants is to abolish Christianity all together simply because we don't believe what they believe. So it's not Christianity you have to worry about. Who are the haters????? It's not Christians and the whole world sees who it really is.

  6. Bill should consider the consequences of Allah sucking goat dick. Maybe Muslims like to behead people because their religion requires that they suck goat dick.

  7. Bill should consider sucking dick. He can't be any worse at it than his last two jobs.

  9. "One of the problems, she correctly asserts, is that "people tend to begin with their conviction and then hunt for scriptural verses to support their view, making religions speak to the contemporary debate."

That is the exact definition of an "Affective Thinker". That is, someone who concludes, then seeks justification for his/her conclusions.

No little irony here, that Bill's ongoing jeremiads aimed at his sworn right wing enemies are, in my opinion, based on pejorative accusations and ad hominem attacks that are untenable, specious and meretricious at best.

Bill's "Ideology" trumps facts and clings to an emotional narrative.

Billy wants to be head chief in the "It takes a village", Potemkin Village.

    He is welcome to it.

Reverend Stone here, at the Church of the Backyard Rock.

Our Rock Gawd study group sat around blessed baldy yesterday (nice weather), discussing Billy's utterings over the years, trying to find anything of value. Sadly, all concluded he remains as stupid, perhaps even more so than the rest of the Star bullshitters. (sorry gawd)

  19. When a religion rapes thousands of kids - you know its not a true religion from God. Its something like a cult made up by man to pose as a religion.

And this makes absolutely no sense, but then neither do most religions.

And yet he can't relate the same definition to the "Deep State" horsecrap he constantly spouts here, or to the links to Tinfoil Hat Brigade posts he uses to support his repetitive ranting.

Hey Chuck, "People who live in Grass Houses should be careful with their Flamethrowers"!

  23. FORMER NEWSMAN FAILS GRAMMAR LESSON

"Religious ideas can be both generative and dangerous"

    generative (ADJECTIVE)
relating to or capable of production or reproduction.
Example: "the generative power of the life force"

    synonyms: procreative · propagative · sexual · genital · sex · progenitive · procreant · conceptive

    A VERY POOR WORD SELECTION!

Further, Tammeus writes: "The last chapter of my new book, Love, Loss and Endurance: A 9/11 Story of Resilience and Hope in an Age of Anxiety, is devoted to exploring ways that we can stand against extremism rooted in religious ideas that are being misused. And I commend the book to you."

Tammeus "commends" his own book to readers? Did he also fabricate his own book reviews? The book itself is a fictional tale!

This time he sprang into action a mere 4 minutes after my posting. He was sitting on the edge of his high-chair all afternoon waiting.
Leaving stupid comments is not a hobby for you Caret-top, as it only reinforces your inferiority complex.
