Kansas City PBS Examines Controversial Black Lives Matter Murals On Local Streets

A public art project championed amid a politically contentious moment in local history still marks the landscape. In a new documentary, moviemakers offer greater insight into the election season creation in the name of social justice.

Description highlight . . .

The film follows artists the week before their mural is set to be painted, taking a deeper look into their lives, what has inspired their passion for this work, and what obstacles they currently face in their pursuit of art activism. This comes after a resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020 following the continued killing of unarmed Black people at the hands of police. Protests erupted across the nation calling for systemic and institutional change. These calls were echoed in Kansas City where, in response, the City Council passed a proclamation to create murals featuring the words “Black Lives Matter.”

For years I've been saying "we need more murals". Finally, my prayers have been answered ! I'm going to sell my house in this awful (gulp) White neighborhood on the Kansas side and move back to KCMO because now, everything will be just grand.................BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!

  4. And the impact of all the marches, riots, grandiose speeches, promises, and, yes, street painting, on the hard-working folks who live on the east side is ZERO.
The whole "movement" is overrun with attention-seekers, frauds, grifters, and the usual suspects looking to make bank on the misery of others.
Where did all the local money shaken down by BLM go?
    Sad.

  7. Where of where is the black Bob Ross with the big afro teaching us how to paint black murals? "Let's put an angry little Marxist here and a blacker than my black ass panther there."

  9. Controversial???? It's racist and hateful, it has caused people to hate black people. By using the slogan Black Lives Matter is bogus and everyone knows it. It's a movement of racism, hate, and control. People have a lot of hate for black people because of how they were used to steal the election in GA. too, this is not going to end up well for black people and has pushed times back worst than before. I do feel sorry for some black people who are smart and decent. More white people are boycotting black owned businesses and some won't even let a black person help them in the stores the hate is intense and is silent for now.

  10. Fake President Joe Biden says.....minorities are not smart enough to use the internet. BLM should take up that issue with him.

  11. Blacks have the mental capabilities of five year olds, Nothing you can do to fix it.

  12. About the only thing that's sillier than BLM demands and painting streets, is local PBS.
It must be really hard to work the cameras and microphones when all these folks ever do is to wring their hands.

  13. Hey, I know our streets are war zones awash in murder. I know that there's an epidemic of black criminals hurting black victims. But the hell with that. Let's make a silly, empty gesture and blame the cops.

  14. Why are Dems so stupid?

  15. Let's make the streets slicker when there's ice, rain and snow. Let's keep separating our society into their own camps so we can get more votes for the Libtards instead of striving for assimilation that made America great. This kind of stuff builds more walls than it destroys.

  18. THE WRATH OF THE AWAKENED SAXON
    by Rudyard Kipling

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.

    They were not easily moved,
They were icy -- willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.

Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
    No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.

    It was not suddently bred.
    It will not swiftly abate.
    Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.
