Clay Continues Fight Against City Hall To Put Light Rail On The Ballot

Right now we share an update from the only man to have ever won a citywide fixed rail vote.

Check the latest according to the longtime local activist . . .

Clay Chastain: The Big Bad City's undignified "Answer" to Clay's petition-related lawsuit, is government at its worst! Inb

"The Big Bad City" played games with a valid petition signed and submitted to it by 3,000 Kansas City registered voters; played games with the Committee of Petitioners that represented those 3,000 voters; and is now playing games with the United States District Court. Clay and the Committee (Pro se) will soon file their response asking the court to pull the fleece off the Big Bad City and order it to place the people's petition on the ballot.

In yesterday's infamous federal court filing (US District Court Case No. 4:20-cv-694 RK), The Big Bad City's Attorney, Galen Beaufort, tries to bamboozle the court with alleged technical violations by the Committee (did not file a meaningless something in a "timely manner", etc), but never once offered the court a valid legal reason why it has refused to place on the ballot (for 652 days) a petition deemed "sufficient" by its own City Clerk, Marilyn Sanders!!!

When The Big Bad City interferes with petitions, is our right to petition infringed upon?
When The Big Bad City selectively ignores petitions, is our right to petition manipulated?
When The Big Bad City emphasizes technicalities over the intent of a petition, is our right to petition eviscerated?
When The Big Bad City judges petitions - rather than let voters judge them - is our right to petition meaningless?

My aim is to protect free speech in Kansas City and get voter approval of this petition which represents the greatest job-creating, City-improving and infrastructure-rebuilding project in our City's history.

  1. Clay needs a psychiatric eval. This is getting ridiculous; laughably even.

  5. Our town and our region has never been suited towards light rail. I don't have actual numbers in front of me, but I bet our population density is the lowest of all ~500,000 and larger Cities in the world. Fixed location transportation works well for high population density areas, anywhere else it becomes an underutilized/cost mode of transportation. This is basic transportation analysis and something Clay should be familiar with. He likes to tout his light rail as "green", an amorphous and lofty goal, but that's based on some heavily weighted ridership numbers. As with the toy train, promoters overestimate ridership to reduce the cost (environmental by Clay and fiscal by the City) burden per unit. This is, and always has been, an exercise in vanity. Even more so with the toy train now running around.

  10. .........afterwards the new proposed route will head east on gregory for a few miles, head back north to the jackson curve junction and then proceed northeast past the museum, then north to 11th st. and go westward a bit........

  11. No more trains. No more e tax. No more combat tax. Everyone should start to document your Jackson county realestate tax. Be prepared so thousands of appeals can flood in.to the county.

  12. Repeating the same action and getting the same result while expecting a different one is the definition of insanity. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Clay Chastain.

As for the Council, Law Department, etc., they’re incompetent and crooked in addition to crazy. No matter who wins, the City is screwed.
