Electric Bus Rolls Into Kansas City

Recently, RideKC offered the latest addition to its fleet that now carries far fewer people because of the pandemic.

Still, the future of transit is electric and this represents much more significant progress than the toy train streetcar given that this bus will likely haul way more people to their destination than all of the "starter line" combined.

  1. This is what is needed - shutdown the "Toonerville Trolley" and spend the money being wasted on that on replacing all Fossil-fuel powered busses with these. The flexibility of these vehicles, and the fact that they are bot "track-bound" but are able to adjust routing to serve the City's chnging needs makes they the only sensible choice, especially if continuing Public Transit as a tax-supported offerring is still planned.

Spread the"economic benefits" of rapid transit so often cited throughout the City instead of in narrow ribbons.

  2. Unless the electric buses run on lightning, they have to be powered through the power grid, where energy is produced by burning fossil fuels. It's just substituting power plant emissions for tail pipe emissions.

  5. Wow what an advancement. A mass transit vehicle that doesn't require tracks !!!!
The future comes to cow town.

  6. Every transfer of power from one form to another some power is loss. Like it or not petroleum is used to construct everything. Windmills, solar panels, electric motors. Pollution and power loss at each step. It would make better environmental sense to burn petroleum products and work on lowering emissions further than waste time on electric feel good bull shit. Simple physics all.

  7. That’s ok 9-16

You have a good point. Net pollution from power generation maybe a wash.

But for cities electric buses at least mean less air pollution right here, in the denser area. So it plays a role. And as the tech improves, maybe the net environment benefit will be there.

  8. The first law of thermodynamics, also known as Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another.
