KANSAS CITY FEARS NEW CITY MANAGER 'HATCHET MAN' TARGETING WORKERS AS COVID-19 BUDGET CRISIS WORSENS!!!

The sordid reputation of new city manager Brian Platt has sparked fear in the urban core and among beleaguered workers at 12th & Oak.

Remember just a few days ago the Wall Street Journal warned of an impending budget crisis

Now . . .

FEAR OF MASSIVE LAYOFFS AMID A BUSTED BUDGET THREATENS CITY HALL!!!

The outcry is more than just gossip and comes with documentation.

In a dramatic presentation of a lawsuit, KC Call managing editor Eric Wesson shared first news of employee complaints against Mr. Platt on KCPT.

Pick up the latest issue of The Call to read the scathing feature in its entirety.

The legal complaints against the former Jersey City honcho are varied but mostly focus on allegations of poor oversight, age & racial discrimination and sketchy employee transfers. As city hall workers are reeling from recent furloughs, the threat of more cutbacks loom large.

Moreover, the question that has dominated the discourse among city hall workers . . .

HOW WILL THE NEW CITY MANAGER JUSTIFY FIRING LOW END WORKERS WHEN HIS SALARY & BENEFITS TOTAL MORE THAN A QUARTER OF A MILLION BUCKS?!?

Cost cutting is never easy but The Call article accurately notes that the new 29th floor honcho has very few community ties and that might make cuts easier but will also power more extreme push back.

Accordingly . . .

There's no doubt the economic impact of COVID-19 will fundamentally transform local government but the process for making changes at the top levels has been compromised. Now, as the voting public grows increasingly divided and angry, local leaders have very little credibility to responsibly cut costs in order to avert financial disaster.

  1. KC needed to start making cuts 10 years ago. The pandemic just made a bad situation worse.

    More furloughs before Christmas.

    100 employee cuts minimum.

The carnage starts in Public Works.

For the rest of us, that means saving up for new tires. The streets are going to be hell in 2021.

  6. Well, I don’t like Mayor Lucas or his politics but if he is responsible for hiring the guy who is hopefully going to bring some professionalism to the Work Force at City Hall, I’m all in. It’s tons of people working at City Hall collecting a check for doing absolutely nothing.. the Admin for Land Bank - that bat shit crazy bitch deserves to lose her job for really insubordinance and bad behavior but if budget cuts is a thing... that works too. Start with Capital Works and work through the City Manager’s office, Housing Director and get busy.

It would be nice if we could have money and get rid of some dead weight but you know that's not how it works.

The people with political connections will be spared and the layoffs & furloughs only apply to those with little to no power. You know, the people who actually do the work.

  13. What the city employees fail to realize is that they don't have real union protection for their jobs. Firefighters and police do because of strong unions. The dog catchers and water employees and sewer and trash collectors don't have the same clout as the fie and police guys do. I am sure they have some collective agreement but if the union is weak so is the agreement. Most of these people are grifters anyway. Five guys to a crew where one or two do all the work and three sleep in the truck just doesn't hack it. Then they don't go direct to the next job they have to stop at the QT or the liquor store first. How do they want it decided who goes and who stays? The City Manager works at the direction of the Mayor and Council to some extent and is actually the person in charge of getting everything done. He will survive and fake lawsuits by Eric Wesson, one of the city's worst journalists, not withstanding.

  18. This city has been spending money it doesn't have like a drunken sailor, on bright, shiny non essential bullshit for years. No point listing 'em, you all know what they are.

The Call suit, of course, ignores the fact that the riots, and all the associated bs, added to the wasted millions in overtime for cops and firefighters, and is simply another in the endless pleas for money to be poured down the bottomless pit known as the "central core".

The only benefit I receive from the city is trash removal and water, and I have been boiling my drinking water for the last three years, after a "turbidity" warning. I simply don't trust the city anymore. Infrastructure maintanence and repair, let alone upgrade is a joke.

Thankfully, Clay and Platte Counties haven't had to worry (yet) about Frank's Jackson County's brand of fiascos.

The E-tax comes up for a vote soon, and after the recent election, I have absolutely no doubt the "livs" (low information voters) will again shoot themselves in the foot.

North of the river should secede from Mogadishu of the Plains and require special passports to cross the bridges.

  25. There’s definitely excess in the management positions all over the city plus they only have to work a half day to get paid in full, they never have to use sick leave or vacation unless they take a week or more off. They receive huge payouts for accrued vacation and sick leave when they leave or retire.

11:57 is right, they won’t go after the do nothing high paid positions because they are friends of someone on the clowncil or the mayor. You could get rid of 10 managers and keep the 100 low paid employees for the same money. I think all assistant to the city managers, directors make $176,000, deputy directors make around $150,000 I think. Your basic low level city employee makes about $30,000. Directors and their deputies don’t do shit for their depts except handle the budgets and really how long do you think they spend figuring that out, a couple months a year?

He’ll be impeached, forced to resign, arkansided, 25th amendment you name it, he ends up in prison by the end of 2021, he’s a waste a breath anyway you look at it, he won’t have time to be a president. The sad part is neither will commie Harris, the dimwit party will find a way to get rid of her no doubt about it.

While that is a lie- he lets Casinos stay open past 10pm.

Contact tracing nationally shows Dems have no idea what to do- they issue orders to close stuff a d then they go eat without masks.
Mayor 10-10-10 is a hypocrite as he was photographed with women he didn’t know with no masks on.
He is a Democratic Idiot... KC’s crown dunce.

    Here is an idea:

Support a petition to change any mention of Covad-19 in KC.
It should be called Covad-10-10-10 in honor of Mayor 10-10-10... a la Quit-ton Lucas and his equally idiot science-fiction health advisor

Quinton says, "I went to school at Cornell in New York, and always admired Donald Trump for his NYC real estate acumen. I voted for him."

Brian says, "I've been a city manager in New Jersey and had a front-row seat to watch Trump's business success. I voted for him too."

The bartender tosses them both out on the sidewalk for violating his No BULLSHIT curfew.
