SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY COVID-19 HARSH TIMES SHUT DOWN THE REIGER!!!

Pandemic numbers continue to spike and Kansas City seems poised for another coronavirus shut down, and so tonight's club life bad news doesn't bode well for the highly anticipated return of good times.

To wit . . .

THE REIGER SHUT DOWN DEVASTATES THE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY RENAISSANCE ALONG THE TOY TRAIN ROUTE!!!

Take a look at realize that BILLIONS of dollars worth of investment on the streetcar line are now in jeopardy . . .

Local news headlines:

The Reiger will close Nov. 1, citing pandemic’s challenges

The Rieger to 'go dark' on Nov. 1, holds hope of reopening in future

A public message from their social media presence . . .

"There will be long, heartfelt posts and more information, in the next couple weeks, but for now we're just going to share some news. After many pivots, a lot of hard work and contemplation, we have decided that it no longer makes financial sense to operate under the conditions we're all living through while facing the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a gut-wrenching and difficult decision, but we need to announce that The Rieger will go dark on November 1st. It has been a great privilege and a beautiful and enriching opportunity to be a part of the Kansas City culinary scene for nearly a decade and to get to cook for, serve and know so many of you. We also feel grateful that we were able to serve over 85,000 meals as the Crossroads Community Kitchen during the start of the pandemic and that is an experience our team will remember for the rest of our lives.

"Pending talks with our landlord and the potential of more federal relief and/or a widely distributed vaccine, we are holding on to hope of being able to relaunch at a future date. But for now, it seems like time to take a break. We hope to see new and old faces between now and October 31st. Thank you, Kansas City, for all the support and love over the years. We love you back."

  1. Sad day for Kansas City. The opening of this place was a major boost for downtown.

Plenty of local jobs now up in smoke. Very depressing times for KC.

  2. Trump wanted to send more relief but Nancy Pelosi blocked it.

Then we should vote the BOTH out. No time for ineffective politicians.

  4. Toast to the Reiger, hope they can get back on their feet. KC would gladly welcome them back!

  5. Thanks for nothing, Trump. You've crushed our economy with your stupidity, laziness, and selfishness. Enjoy the, "fruits," of your effort, MAGATs. YOU caused this.

  9. Funny how other civilized countries around the world dealt with COVID quickly, effectively, and properly to stop the virus spread. Meanwhile, Trump and his allies created a political MAGAT frothy circle-jerk.

    "I won't wear a mask!"
"The government can't tell me what to do!"
    "Freedumb!"

Well, here we are. America is broke, broken, and bleeding out. There is absolutely no end in sight. COVID rages on. Thanks, Diddling Don.

  11. This REALLY sucks.

The Reiger was one of the best places in Kansas City and had the best people. If you're REALLY from KC and actually visited downtown you know what a loss this is. Hope they can tell us how we can help them reopen. This is one of the few places that would be worth a fundraiser. C'mon guys help us help you!

T-shirts, drink buys or take out! I'm down to actually do something besides complain on TKC!

  12. Pelosi had the House pass a relief bill over 3 months ago.

Mitch and Trump did nothing with it.

Trump hasn't talked to Nancy in a year. His idea of negotiating is a completely different tweet everyday. In 4 consecutive days last week he tweeted - pass a bill, talks are cancelled until after the election, pass individual pieces of it, and pass the biggest bill ever. But Mitch won't budge on any of it since he just wants to approve a judge.

Trump has completely fucked this country and he continues to tell everyone things are going great because, well, the stock market. This loser has got to go.

    1. Trump stated that if the bill was only a check to individual Americans and not pork filled give away he would sign it.

  13. The Reiger "transitioned" from a $50 a plate restaurant to a soup kitchen and then back again to a $50 a plate restaurant. Perhaps the owners should have focused on the $50 a plate restaurant in light of the costs to run a $50 a plate restaurant...

  14. Yeah Republicans are the ones that want the economy shut down.

Progressives are insane. They can look right at their own family dog, a Labrador retriever and if CNN tells them it is a bear, they will shoot it and tell everyone how brave they were when they protected their families from the bears that Donald Trump sent out into the city.

    Just brutal.

"Trump is xenophobic for cutting off flights from China!" Joe Biden

"See you at the Chinese New Year festival!" Nancy Pelosi and Bill De Blah-sio.

  19. Mayor mckneely is single handedly destroying kc, where’s the damn recall signing at, I’ll sign it and can get at least fifty more people to sign it. Never has a city been run so poorly as it has been now, and hopefully never will again.

  20. The Democrapic mayors and governors have been trying to stall out the economy as much as possible so Trump can't brag about the stellar economy he brought to America before the Chinese Communists unleashed COVID on America and the rest of the world. The Democraps don't care how many people they hurt with their extreme lockdowns and restrictions. They only want extreme socialist power and damn anyone who gets in their way of that goal. Lyin' Blunderin' Biden will be told what to do by extreme socialist puppet-masters pulling his strings in a backroom.
