COMING SOON: MISSION GATEWAY DISASTER MOVIE DEVELOPMENT!!!

Here's just a bit of edification on this commonplace pop culture terminology . . . "Netflix and chill" is an Internet slang term used as a euphemism for sexual activity, either as part of a romantic partnership or as casual sex or as a groupie invitation.

And speaking of getting screwed . . . Here's some propaganda behind a paywall that doesn't deserve a link:

"After years of false starts, construction has begun at the Mission Gateway project at Shawnee Mission Parkway, Roe Avenue and Johnson Drive in Mission. Crews are working on a 90,000 square-foot complex called Cinergy Entertainment."

META fair use frame from a movie about a theater complex . . .

For what it's worth and backed up by movie theater numbers revealing attendance at 25-year-lows . . .

TKC PREDICTION: MISSION GATEWAY ANCHORED BY AN EPIC MOVIE THEATER IS A DISASTER IN THE MAKING!!!

Here's a look at the idealized plan . . .

Meanwhile, we won't have to wait long for grindhouse discord and the inevitable shut down final act for a biz already on shaky ground from the start.

Developing . . .

  4. ^^^^Know your history before saying stupid shit. There was never a lake in that area. I swear where do you fucking idiots come from.

  5. Yes there was a lake there. Look at old maps. The creek that fed it now runs under that development in huge tunnels. many time Myrons Green's was closed in the 60's as the lake reappeared when it rained. BTW, that Kim Baldi girl looks hot, I love under boob shots.

  7. 11:18 I have lived in the JOCO area my whole life and there was never a lake there. At one time was a tiny ass park and small pond with a house on the east side of that up along Johnson Drive. The pond did not tie in to Rock Creek at all. By 1954 the house was gone and the pond was drained. Around that time as well was when Roeland Drive was connected to what was then 50 Highway before becoming Shawnee Mission Parkway. This was when the start of construction started taking place for the shopping center. I know all of this as my grandfather built the road and also did the grading and parking lot and relocating of Rock Creek for what was to be the old Mission Shopping Center. He as well as Roy Doty who owned Overland Excavating warned the city and engineers that the relocated creek was choked down to much at the bridge on Roeland Drive over Rock Creek. You know nothing as you didn't even mention the name of the creek that is still there. There was more water in small ponds on the old golf course than the small pond you think was a lake. And no the old cafeteria didn't close many times just a few about the same as the number of times the Plaza closed. A heavy rain would fill the back parking lot of the shopping center a lot due to poor drainage of the parking lot itself. Back when that shopping center was built the city of Mission had no building inspectors and developers more or less had free rein to do whatever.

As an added note the Old Mission Bowling alley parking lot flooded more than the shopping center ever did.

  8. well, movie theaters might draw traffic to mission, which isn't all bad.

on the other hand, the giant movie complex in olathe is strange and other-worldly.

such an edifice wouldn't go well with much of anything else, imho. don't know if apartments or a hotel would want to be right across from it. maybe fast-food restaurants would be ok.
