Immigrants and U.S.-born Latinos account for more than a third of residents without health insurance in the Kansas City area's three largest counties. That's one of the findings in a study about the fastest growing segment of the local workforce, commissioned by the Reach Healthcare Foundation.

DeleteReally? My experience has been while I mostly don't share their tastes in cars, they aren't expensive extravagant things. It's more like fake hub caps on a mid 90s import with some unfinished body kit. Was on a site yesterday where that was the norm. The only ones with deuce deuces are plying the drug trades.

ReplyDeleteTL/DR: typical family of 4, premium is $1k/ month, $16k deductible, 60/40 after that. A 100k major medical in December. Insured family is 12k in premium 16k in deductible. Of the remaining 84k bill they're on the hook for 50.4k. No wheeling or dealing allowed. On the hook for 79k. Dude without insurance on the hook for 100, can possibly wheedle some down. Bottom line, your average Joe is fvcked either way.

ReplyDeleteThe question is not, and should not be, who does and does not have health insurance. It is who is not receiving health care. Uninsured people get treated regardless of their ability to pay. I don't remember hearing about any wounded gang bangers being left to die in the street. They are all transported by expensive ambulance for expensive ER treatment and then in an expensive hospital room until they are well enough to hit the streets and do the same thing all over again.
