TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY 'PAYMENT IN PROTEST' MOVEMENT ORGANIZES AGAINST FLAWED JACKSON COUNTY PROPERTY TAX INCREASES!!!

As disproportionate property tax increases hit the metro, here's a look one method that locals are using the fight the system.

To wit . . .

THE "PAYMENT IN PROTEST MOVEMENT" IS RAMPING UP AMONG JACKSON COUNTY RESIDENTS HOPING TO STOP THE COUNTY FROM CASHING IN ON ASSESSMENTS THAT STILL CONFRONT MAJOR CHALLENGES!!!

Again, this move is built into the Missouri Law . . . 139.031. Payment of current taxes under protest — action, when commenced, how tried — refunds, how made, may be used as credit for next year’s taxes.

Full disclosure. . .

TKC IS NOT GIVING READERS ANY FINANCIAL ADVICE AND TAXPAYERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS!!! THIS BLOG POST MERELY REPORTS ON A TACTIC LOCALS ARE USING TO CHALLENGE WHAT THEY CONSIDER A BROKEN COURTHOUSE ASSESSMENT SYSTEM!!!

Here's the word sent far and wide from a tax fighter and local civic activist . . .

I've attached a template for a letter I would like you to consider sending to pay your taxes under protest. If you do so, the Collector will be required to put the amount you protest into an account that cannot be used until your protest is resolved. Of course, you will have to file suit in the circuit court within 90 days but you can either add your name to the list of those for whom I will be filing suit or you can use the template I will be posting in the next week or two and file suit yourself.

Our approach is three-fold: 1) to get as many people as possible to pay their taxes under protest; 2) to file for an injunction against the Collector to preclude her from collecting taxes in excess of the amount assessed last year; and 3) to file for a Writ of Mandamus against the BOE to get them to enter an intra-county equalization order rolling back the taxes to last year's levels.

We need as much participation as possible. Please give this request your favorable consideration and pass this letter to as many Jackson County residents as possible, as soon as possible.

  1. Recall against Frank White would be far more useful.

  2. ^^^^ D-bags don't know your history. TKC needs a lesson two.

The payment in protest method actually worked during the last property tax increase and a lot of people were issued credits and funds when the county couldn't cash their check.

If we had a real newspaper, they would have reported on this without the paywall.

The problem is there is no news in KC and the TV stations, with the great exception of KCTV5, think this issue is too complicated for their cub reporters.

    Hope this strategy works.

Wish it didn't come to this, nobody knew Frank White was going to be such a hapless leader who doesn't understand the consequences of what he's doing.

  7. Don't use that buggy unreliable piece of crap software PayIt either. Send a personal check with your letter.

  8. 10:00 sweetheart deal for sure because she apparently doesn’t have to pay personal property taxes either.

You all need to see the increases on your your personal property taxes, they’ve gone up. Mine went up instead of going down.

  11. "I filed 40 appeals for clients. On Friday, they could not find any of them. If you haven't been notified yet, your appeal may be lost too. Head of commercial assessment resigned on Friday. 6000 commercial appeals!"

Into the black hole we go

  12. Reposted from another post said.....

So I was just looking at Jackson counties budget and they expect an increase in property taxes from 15 million to 30 million, but wait there’s more, they expect an increase of personal property taxes from 27 million to 48 million, I said it earlier that you all need to pay attention to your personal property taxes as well, these crooks are trying every dirty trick in the books.

DOUBLING UP ON TAX INCREASES ALL AROUND......... WOW.
