  1. There are way too many state schools. It's probably not politically feasible to shut any of them down, but they could be made smaller by getting rid of little used courses and departments, and by concentrating subject areas (engineering, sociology etc.) in one location and offering only intro courses at the other campuses. Don't worry about the laid off professors. They are so smart (just ask them), they will have no trouble learning to code.
