TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY ACTIVISTS DEMAND CITY HALL HELP SUPPLEMENT CROSSROADS INSURANCE & CONTINUE FIRST FRIDAY STREET PARTY!!!
After a deadly shooting that killed an innocent young woman, plans to drastically downsize First Friday in the Kansas City Crossroads have been met with nearly universal rebuke by local biz leaders, politicos and community activists.
The decision from the Crossroads Community Association is now under scrutiny and their claim that insurance cancellation caused the change has been challenged with a proposed fix.
To wit . . .
BEHIND THE SCENES, ACTIVISTS DEMAND COUNCIL DEVISE SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE FOR THE CROSSROADS IN ORDER TO CONTINUE THE FIRST FRIDAY STREET PARTY THAT PRODUCES REVENUE FOR FOOD TRUCKS, SHOPS AND ALL MANNER OF CREATIVE CLASS DENIZENS!!!
To be fair, let's not overlook a great many Crossroads residents who were relieved by the First Friday cutbacks.
Nevertheless, here's the KICK-ASS TKC INSIDER TIPSTER FIRST WORD on the power play in progress . . .
"I agree with the sentiment that we can't run and hide behind closed doors just because of a shooting. We need more security but also a commitment from our elected officials. If the Mayor & Council are serious about continuing their support of the Crossroads then we should talk about how to keep the scale of the event intact. One insurer has, allegedly, cancelled but there are others and KCMO needs to play an active role in securing the people of the Crossroads & the East Side in every respect -- That includes financial support for one of the best monthly festivals in the Midwest."
Here's the kicker . . .
"This is a diverse event and we can't afford for all of Kansas City to be scared away from it. City Hall must step in and if they refuse to do so, then we need to challenge their double talk about "support" without any real action to put their money where their mouth is . . . Attending a few press events is one thing but finding a way to keep the food trucks, restaurants, businesses and performers working should the real test of their commitment. There is a way to do that, KCMO needs to step up and help with insurance."
Most interesting . . .
MANY URBAN CORE LEADERS SEE KCMO SUPPLEMENTING FIRST FRIDAY INSURANCE AS PART OF THE CONTINUED EFFORT TO CONNECT THE EAST CROSSROADS TO THE 18TH & VINE DISTRICT!!!
Good luck to any politico or pundit who speaks up against this effort on the record. Right now we know that 12th & Oak wants to stay out of the First Friday drama and leave the decision/blame to the neighborhood leaders.
And so, given upcoming memorial services and the next First Friday festivities . . . We'll see politicos talk about their "support" for the Crossroads and now activists will be ready to press elected officials regarding real world steps to demonstrate dedication to this diverse party that has been tragically diminished.
Developing . . .
True to form. Kansas City really only springs into action when there's a party at stake.
ReplyDeleteOnly agree with one part of this post that I know is true for a fact. Crossroads residents were glad to see the event scaled down. It was too much and obviously a disaster waiting to happen. You think people won't speak against closing streets? Think again. The girls death was a tragedy but it also might be the only thing that saved the neighborhood.
DeleteSounds like a great plan. Another shooting and KC is out a few million dollars. But what's that compared to a great party? As long as the taxpayers keep paying. It works. For now.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great use for the neighborhood's NTDF allocation. Now that Sly is no longer able to pilfer from the fund, perhaps there will be enough to cover this.
ReplyDeleteChief Smith has been completely absent from this discussion and how his department can help. He disappeared after that poorly thought out press conference and hasn't been seen since. His run and hide way of leading is failing the taxpayers. Is he going to direct more resources to the large venues, or not? How about horse officers, why have they been absent on 1st Fridays? Chief Forte' had a lot of faults, but Smith has gotten a pass on violent crime and his disappearing act in the community.
ReplyDeleteThe Star editorial board pontificated against making any changes to the First Friday mob scenes.
ReplyDeleteLet them include it on their liability insurance policy.
One incident and that would be the last gasp of their dying publication.
Put your money where your mouth is, please.
The only people against "Scaling down" first friday is dumb suburbanites who bought a condo downtown and are surprised that it's an actual downtown in a city. There's no city on earth that would attempt to scale back it's only successful monthly even but here we are with suburban failed artists bitching about it. It's sad these people want to see the city fail and do less business because they feel the crossroads needs to be some quiet neighborhood. Move to brookside and have your gay little once a year art fair and shut up

ReplyDeleteBuild that wall ... along Troost.
I demand these "ACTIVISTS" sit down and STFU!
ReplyDeleteWhy do the taxpayers have to support every little fad that comes along that benefits so few?
If this is such a great event then charge the food trucks, vendors and retail places to all pay up to be a part of it or stay the hell home.
Fix the broken roads first before funding a damned party. Fucking idiots. Bankruptcy, here we come!
ReplyDeleteInner-city activist mating call.
ReplyDeleteGive me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$. Give me $$$.
I remember the parties held Fridays downtown in the Hyatt for young professionals. Cant remember what they were called. I think a radio station sponsored it. All the hot girls were there looking for future husbands. I was a entry level kid, got ignored by all the ladies. Such was life.
ReplyDeleteHear me out on this. None of the proposed solutions will ever work. The only real option here is to make first fridays a whites-only affair. Ban black people for a while and the crime will plummet to zero. Maybe after a while we can start letting in mulatto half-breed, if they behave themselves.
ReplyDelete^^Ugh huh. Time for a diaper change gramps. You've shit yourself again! No more inter-webs today!
ReplyDeleteSilly lil' Chimpy. You're not even in charge of your own cage. Do you need a banana or a very simple puzzle? Poor Chimpy. ;)
DeleteThe city, the neighborhood, and whoever organizes this event needs a PLAN. It's chaotic down there at this point. No insurer wants this liability. What kind of premium are insurance companies going to look for to cover the next muti-million dollar lawsuit?
ReplyDeleteNothing is ever 100% safe - regardless of whether it is Brookside or the Crossroads. The difference is the chaotic event that it's become. The vendors, food trucks, galleries (the couple that are left), the restaurants, and whoever else wants to participate in 1st Friday need to invest in the event. That means a community organization, $ to be involved, professional management, a defined area for the event, security, crowd control, traffic control, etc. etc. If the food trucks don't want to pay - then they shouldn't be able to participate.
Or go to Swope and play gay Frisbee golf.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is pretty JOCO girls go to these events, then the bad boy thugs go there just to look at the girls who dress with their boobs hanging out. Pretty soon a thug sees an enemy thugs and trouble starts. NONE of the attendees are ART EXPERTS OR SERIOUS CASH BUYERS OF EXPENSIVE ART. Thos people are sitting in Mission Hills and have their art securely on loan to the Nelson Art Gallery. Sometimes the drunk JOCO girls get laid by a bad boy and so more come to give it a try. Its a dangerous area of the city, always has been. Its death alley. Have a casket picked out before going
ReplyDelete^^^Ugh huh. Remarkable analysis as you have never been anywhere. Go back to watching Matlock. Your analysis was stupid, lazy, and comical.
ReplyDeleteYounger and dumber crowd is here with their fantasy about wiping shit off an old mans ass. Isn’t it time for work being a waiter because you have worthless college degree ?
ReplyDelete^^It is if it's time for your diaper change geezer. You're boring the shit out of everyone
ReplyDeleteWipe my ass younger and dumber
DeleteYay! Chimpy's repeating himself again!! Lol
DeleteAh horseshit!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of insurance are they talking about? Who would be insured, for what kinds of losses?
ReplyDeleteHey, leave Chimpy alone!
ReplyDeleteHe's the funniest and most reliable thing on TLC.
ODE TO THE CHIMPSTER
Dance Chimpy, dance -
caper, rant and prance
Matlock here and diaper there,
and Tapioca everywhere,
we have faith there'll come a day
when Chimpy has something real to say!
But till then there is no chance
of things worthwhile but Chimpy - DANCE!
Awesome
DeleteThis is actually a good idea. Council should take action and save October & November first Friday.
ReplyDeleteWhat's a couple of million between friends?
ReplyDeleteThe same so-called activist are probably the same ones who gave you the thousand room hotel the brand new airport and now what a stadium downtown all these people live in Johnson county it's interesting they pay no taxes to Kansas City Missouri but they want you to pay for it I think it's time to tell them to go shove it where the sun don't shine.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a good suggestion but how will the City Council approve the funds since they are gone for two weeks?!?!
ReplyDeleteCouncil should make this their first priority when they get back. It doesn't have to happen right now. Bad ideas take time to implement! Look at the streetcar, that has been a continuing disaster for almost half a decade now.
DeleteOld is Johnson county carpetbaggers what the kansas City taxpayers to pay for all their luxury projects. Suggestion to these downtown sick offenses if you want to pay for the insurance why don't you pay for it like DST Kansas City southern let the big corporations pay for the insurance because they're going to write it off anyway.
ReplyDeleteNO tax money for crossroads,!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe roar of the gunfire was so great no one heard their tax dollars going down the toilet.
ReplyDelete10:52, why are your panties in such a knot? Just because people live in an urban environment doesn’t mean they want a street festival outside their door once a month. It also doesn’t mean they don’t value peace and privacy in their neighborhood. You sound like one of the many urban wannabes that probably moved here from Topeka, Lincoln or Cedar Rapids and now think you’re very cosmopolitan when you actually wouldn’t know true urban living if it bit you on the butt.
ReplyDelete2:05 - I will change my clean diaper (being a geezer and all) but if you continue to party on the town and not pay your rent - I will be kicking your snowflake ass to the curb!! And My brother who you work for will be laying off one person who doesnt add up to the ROI, actually I think it will be a win for me and my geezer brother..snow on you ,millenial dumbfuck.
ReplyDeleteTo the guy that thinks using the term "Chimpy" We all know you are a KCFD firefighter, My sister knows the guy and he is a fag, and he at the station has way to much time on his hands if you look at his post time stamps. All Fire Firefighters are "Monkeys" who love working with hoses filled with fluid, they also like to cheat on their wives, and claim they are heros...sorry got off track there, but hey poster that uses "Chimpy" on your posts in EVERY TKC post, just know you look more retarded the more you post, and you are more than likely the fag that thinks posting "weird" after every post makes you look smart, when everyone knows you are dumb as fuck.
