Kansas City-area schools innovate to fill critical number of teacher vacancies

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Kansas City-area schools are trying to remedy a critical teacher shortage looming as the new school year begins, including by placing unqualified educators into some classrooms. Some school districts have been rehiring retired teachers, or training counselors and coaches to teach, The Kansas City Star reported.

  6. Spend the day in the KCPS schools and you will see that low pay is not the reason first year teachers are abandoning the job and running out of the schools crying. The schools are jammed packed with convicted juvenile felons, sex offenders, and 20 year old 9th grade students dating 14 year olds.No amount of money is going to fix teachers having to be corrections and probation officers in schools.
