Another Kansas City Cyclist Killed In SUV Crash Sunday Morning As Bike/Walk Activists Wage War Against Autos

The human tragedy of this collision should evoke sympathy from both sides of this regulatory debate . . . Instead, nearly every crash involving a bike in KCMO is regarded as a hate crime and a rhetorical victory against drivers who ALSO want safety for everyone on local streets . . . Here's today's example wherein social media pundits automatically ascribe blame against the driver in order to justify questionable and EXPENSIVEpublic policy goals. Read more:

Bicyclist killed in crash with SUV overnight

INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) - A bicyclist was struck and killed in Independence early Sunday morning. At about 2:45 a.m., Independence police were called to E. College St. and N. Emery St. on a crash involving a bicycle and a SUV. The bicyclist was traveling south on Emery St.

  1. The bicyclist was traveling south on Emery St. when it failed to stop for a stop sign.

That in a nutshell says it all. Bike riders scream that car drivers won't share the road and almost every time a bike rider is killed it's because they are the ones who failed to follow the rules of the road. These fools all think the rules car drivers have to follow does not apply to them.

Plus why is it that a car and motorcycle all have to have all these lights operating on their vehicles while these clowns on bikes wear dark clothing and have pathetic lighting?

All of the problems will be solved when the $450 million Eric Bunch wants gets wasted on this.

  3. Last bicyclist killed at 3:00 am, this one at 2:45am.
    Impose a 8:00pm - 8:00am curfew on bicycles.

  4. Waiting to hear from "Landslide Eric" about this, even though he has nothing whatever to do with Independence.

  5. This guy in his low rider bicycle goes down Nall at 815 am on weekdays. My affectionate name for him is Lance Einstein

  6. That guy going down Nall is a traffic hazard. My elderly neighbor lives near 91st and Nall and she cant see well at all, she drives in her car down Nall and I know will someday hit a cyclist. She drives a big heavy older car for "safety". But 4,500 pounds of car will quickly kill someone she hits. Take a hacksaw and cut up a bike into 2 foot long partss. You can carry the parts in 1 hand. No way those dinky parts can offer any protection to a bike rider. Plenty of parks have trails for bikes, BIKERS STAY OFF OUR ROADS!

  7. 2:00am, bike riding...? It’s mpt safe to walk in Kansas City at that hour... Of course, personal responsibility wont ever rear its rational head.
Let’s blame automobiles for their inability to see a cyclist at 2:00am in the morning who probably wasn’t driving in the bullshit bike lane provided by these so called activists, and my tax dollars.

  8. Out in the middle of the night on a bike is not a bicyclist. It is a person too poor or unable to legally own or drive a car. That late at night there is also good chance they are drunk or drugged up.

  9. The less bikers the better. its hard enough to drive down the road and watch all the cars that drive erratically. We don't need slow bike riders taking up a valueable yard or two of the right should which could be used for evasive actions to prevent a car wreck. Plus I have to dirve over the whire center line to drive around packs of cyclists in south O.P. who think they are some kind of a Lance Armstrong or Italian biking hero, they wear odd shorts and shirts plastered with Audi or Mercedes emblems- so go get an Audi instead of riding you bike. And your bright flashing lights - its a irritant and makes me want to run them over. Get off the busy streets you freeks.

  10. I tense up every time I see a bicycle on the road. I've had them abruptly change lanes in front of me, blow through yield and stop signs, and in general, put their lives at risk. I don't want to hurt, maim, or kill anyone. Please follow the rules of the road and wear either safety orange or reflective yellow. Good luck.
