Stat Geek Soren Petro Replaces KK

Nerdy game-focused talk that stays far, far away from any kind of cultural commentary will now takeover the sports talk airwaves.

Take a look for those who haven't seen it already at the aftermath of cancel culture ending a legendary broadcasting career over meanie comments about the Kansas City Chiefs coach Reid's fam:

Mellinger On Twitter Today: @SorenPetro and The Program will take over 810's afternoon slot on Monday.

Don't get it twisted. Soren Petro has a legion of loyal fans and his mostly apolitical viewpoint is probably welcomed by station management.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. He's better than Keitzman. Knows more about the game.

  2. ^^^^^It still don't make him a winner.

  3. glad he's going to be on in the evening - total pro. Huge upgrade from KK. Good work 810!

  4. All the Jayhawk fans are cheering because the only guy who took a hard look at KU sports missteps is out (Kietzman), and the only guy who gets softer and softer on KU sports missteps each year because he is married to a KU grad and raising mini-Jayhawks is in (Petro). Bravo to KU fans. Your devious plan to blow KK's comments out of proportion and make them reach a national scale worked to perfection. Hats off to you all!

  5. Soren doesn't have an agenda like KK did.

  6. Petro seems like he's getting tired of the gig, but he looks good in comparison to 610 and the "B team" at 810. With age, he's gotten quicker to anger with callers when they don't agree with his logical reasoning (my way or the highway attitude). About the only interesting thing about him now is his self-deprecating humor, like when he calls himself "a fatty" around all the food delivered to the station.

  7. I like Soren. Way easier to listen to. He has a very easy style that will generate more traffic. He is also a better interviewer. This was the right decision. The Kietzman departure might be the best thing to happen to the station.

  8. Team Soren all the way.

KK was okay but this gives us a lot of reason to keep listening.

  9. ^^^^ Fanboy.

  10. Good deal easy to listen to. Maybe they could bring his old side kick Doug back.

  11. Soren's okay but kind of boring to the average listener. His 10-2 slot seemed perfect for his style. I don't hate the guy or anything but he's definitely just a slightly above average radio guy. I don't like kietzman but he had the personality/ego to make it work and not having him on the radio will definitely hurt 810 in the long run

  12. He's now almost more famous and successful than Nick Wright. LOL

  13. Soren is the best--and I've been listening to talk radio going back to the 70s. "Average" listener usually means dumb kid or sub-literate moron who flips the channel as soon as it gets interesting. If Soren does not dumb down his content, then he keeps the base he has and it will grow. 1st on the agenda should be to talk his bosses into firing the soon to be 610 jerk Josh Briscoe. That kid never made it past "see spot run", and another dick joke or ballwash of Kapernick will only lose more listeners.

  14. I'm tired of Petro. He's been losing steam over the past two years. And they should save some money by letting Bukaty go. He offers very little in-depth knowledge (other than soccer) for how much they're likely paying him. Judging by his voice, the guy sounds like he got three hours of sleep and can't wait to get back home and hit the sack.
