Retired Kansas City Newspaperman Reports Jungerman Jackson County Jail Saga

Call it local vigilante journalism or maybe must more interesting than playing golf . . . Jimmy C files a somewhat worthwhile post on a motion that nobody thought would pass along with a great deal of moralizing regarding the case. Read more:

David Jungerman in his latest court appearance: "Am I a violent person? No."

In his first courtroom appearance in eight months, David Jungerman played the "woe is me" card as hard as he could today, unleashing a desperate attempt to get out of jail until his first-degree murder case goes to trial. I'm 81 and can't get the medical care I need in jail; all my assets have...

  4. They can’t prove he did it or he would have been to court by now, he’ll get out, just wait, you’ll see. This wouldn’t be a big deal if it wasn’t a worthless lawyer, if it was a commoner you wouldn’t hear a word about it. If it turns out a kolored shot him you won’t hear a thing about ever again.

  5. I am glad that Jim Fitzpatrick has hounded this case.
Tho his statements are the kind that, if they were widely read, would perhaps be cause for moving the Sept 3 jury trial out of town.

Fitz has just a few cases he pursues, in between substitute teaching and taking trips to cities without major league teams, where he shares travelogues.

This case is one of his best, and at one time he scored a personal interview with Jungerman--altho not by representing himself as a reporter, I don't believe.

One has to laugh at Jungerman's whining about jail conditions.

And he is definitely a flight risk--the Jeffrey Epstein of the Stand Your Ground crowd! A hothead. Who would re-offend in an instant. His filter is off. Looking for trouble, with a hair trigger temper, it seems. He expects people to be scamming him or taking "HIS" perceived money. Which is the THEORY about why he had motive to kill a good attorney who triumphed over him in court, earning a $5.75 million judgment.

As commenters above noted, why can't Jean Peters Baker make this case stick?

Finally, I am especially grateful for Tony publishing this, since he has a VERY wide readership. Instead of considering the source, who you do not like or respect, you gave weight to the facts presented, and "got off it" about putting down Fitz. Thank you, T.

  7. Are we missing the obvious? The attorney defended a lifelong violent criminal that broke into this man's business. The criminal could have raped local women (rape kits discarded) or been the person that broke into your car some years ago.... or stole you TV way back when. And the criminal got millions of dollars in damages from Jungerman. That irrational award was enough to drive most normal people (especially a guy raised in the 1940's) to temporary rage and vengeance. Notice Jungerman didn't kill the burglar. he killed the attorney who felt the criminal deserved 3 million. Jungerman shot the criminal in the lower calf, not the chest. He didn't want to kill the criminal. But the attorney's adversarial stance pissed him off. if an attorney got a 3 million dollar award for a criminal that was raping your daughter, and you hit the criminal over the head with a bat, would you be mad? Attorneys do NOT respect right or Wrong. They respect loopholes to allow them to win. In sports it would be called cheating. Most attorneys are going to hell, as they do not honor whats right, are therefore immoral, and cannot worship an always moral God.

  8. One thing is for sure - the burglar now has a larger net worth than anyone posting here (unless your worth several million dollars free and clear). No taxes or social security need be paid on his type of punitive legal award. The burglar is rich! He has a national money manager handling his funds, which have grown even larger through the record stock market gains. if he lives another 10 to 15 years he will have doubled the award amount through compounding, he will be worth 6 to 8 million bucks. What will YOU net worth be in 15 years? The burglar has outclassed you! Is that fair?

  10. The attorney's wife is an M.D. who is a supporter of new gun control laws to protect people. She and her hubby knew the risk of an angry legal issue causing a dead. But the guy didn't change and practice tax law or real estate law. Getting a huge judgement against an old man who has shot numerous other people and has nothing else to lose it a bad idea. Even if your going to get 50% of the damage award. May he rest in peace as he is now a legal case himself, that another attorney will make money off of.....defending Jungerman. its a never ending circle of shark attorneys.
