TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! NO MONEY FOR NEW KANSAS CITY MAYOR AND COUNCIL TO SPEND SEYZ 12TH & OAK INSIDER!!!

Kansas City credit cards are maxed out and the new politicos taking power will be confronted by tighter budgets and fewer resources according to City Hall insiders.

To wit . . .

FEAR OF RECESSION AND TAX-WEARY VOTERS THREATEN TO DESTROY THE HOPES & DREAMS OF NEWBIE POLITICOS ACCORDING THE AN INSIDER WHO HAS SEEN UNBALANCED CITY HALL BOOKS!!!

The insider asks:

"What are they going to build? There's no money! What new efforts will the lead? Who is going to pay for it? In this climate there's absolutely no will to raise taxes for any reason. THAT leaves this new crop with not a lot to do but twiddle their thumbs or hopefully try to keep their promises to neighborhoods in a cost-effective manner. Good luck!"

Beyond chatter, here are a few facts to back up this tragic narrative . . .

- Most economists are going on the record and warning that the recession is already underway.

- This year Kansas City voters rejected cute youngsters in need to education, any similar tax increase isn't going to have the benefit of pure intentions as voters are more than willing to SMACK DOWN even the most heartfelt plea from politicos.

- The city's budget continues to increase and there's not enough cash to cover big ticket items like upcoming bridge repair and the ongoing sewer crisis.

And all of this leads us to the crisis of conscience that awaits these future denizens of City Hall . . .

THE KCMO BUDGET DEMANDS MORE TAX INCREASES BUT NEITHER THE NEW MAYOR NOT COUNCIL ARE POPULAR ENOUGH TO PASS THAT CAREER KILLING VOTE!!!

Already Jackson County Exec Frank White is facing a revolt that will inevitably see him out of office. Another tax spike in KC would elicit near rebellion in the streets among overburdened homeowners.

And so, with no money to spend and no new projects to champion . . . It's clear Kansas City shouldn't expect much from these new political players who will be some of the least powerful elected officials assuming office in local history.

  1. Never fear. It will take something hopeful like a green deal or a new streetcar but KC always has and always will find a way to increase taxes.

    1. Look at the record, KC public votes for tax increases that makes sense. I'm not convinced we won't do it again. We keep on voting for the damn earnings tax.

  3. Not having enough money in the budget never even slowed Sly and the gang down and the new crop of clowns are cut from the same cloth.
Just declare an "emergency" and move money from the account where it was budgeted and spend it on the latest shiny new thing that some special interest group or out-of-town consultant sold you.
    Or you'll be left behind!
When that tactic reduces money available for boring services like street repair or public safety, no need to pay that any attention. The public certainly doesn't and you can always blame the state legislature or feds or someone else.
And when the actual cash is all gone, just go to the bond market and borrow as much as you can. No need to spend it on what was promised the voters. They don't pay any attention and will never know.
Surely the crop of newbies can come up with yet more underhanded schemes to move money around, borrow, and deceive the taxpayers.
The sad thing is that all this effort will end up being for something stupid like bike lanes, streetcars, arts festivals, or other frivolous crap that means nothing to residents or businesses.
    It never changes.

Now people know why Kander withdrew from the KCMO mayoral race.

  5. The city is in a huge mess in fact it's such a huge mess it's why good people and I mean people who know how a city should be ran are not running for office. A smart sane person doesn't really want to walk into a nightmare that no matter how great they are could be remembered as the person/mayor in office when it all came crashing down. Justus and Lucas both are writing ego checks neither one will be able to cash because all they want is to simply be known as the mayor no matter how bad or shape the city is or will become. They both worked with Sly James making the mess KC is and will finish off what is left then they more than likely will leave town to go screw up something else in another location.

  6. It simple....This is what happens when you have democrats running your city. Take a look at all of the cities and towns, that are democrat run. Democrats aren't smart enough to pour piss out of a boot before they put it on. Can't wait to see KC go down the toilet, you dirty ass liberals deserve what you get. THIEVES!

  7. A lot of people on here bash Super Dave but I think his 5:10 post hits the nail on the head. Regardless of tomorrow’s outcome, KC is gonna be on the hook for another serving of what Sly has been feeding it for far too long.

  8. How can this be? The city manager is the former budget officer. City employees know what has been going on for the last eight years and have kept quiet to keep their jobs and watch their pensions go unfounded, but they can ride the light rail for free.

  9. Regardless of who is the new mayor they must bring in a new city manager from outside in order to get a true grasp of the budget issues that have been presented with the city managers narrative of lies. Internal staff should not be promoted into the city manager position, as they are coming complicit either by choice or force.

  12. When you run out of money and ideas simultaneously, time to call Cleaver.
He'll do pretty much the only thing he knows how to do in DC, and that's get some good 'ole federal pork to bring back to KCMO.
Of course, very little of that money will ever be used in a way that the public can notice. In fact, most of it will somehow be lost to "middle men" who don't being much of anything to the game except for knowing the right people.
Maybe even a new gig for Sly.
    Green Impact Zone II.
Lots of hype and promises, though.
Which is pretty much all KCMO government is about.
    Frosty!

  13. I for one and excited about the prospects of there being little money available to the new class of council members. It seems everybody else has to tighten their belts financially and the City is doing bankrupt style business as usual - spending money it doesn’t have for things like a 5-mile streetcar. Citizens cannot and should not pay for these types of things... a gazillon dollar hotel wasn’t needed, no matter who you ask. The truth is that the so-called tourist that Kansas City generates largely comes from smaller towns in Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska. They are the very same people who claim to be from Kansas City but when you look at their drivers license it says Overland Park, Leawood, Prairie Village, Olathe, Bonner Springs Lawrence, Topeka, Witchita, Gardner, Tonganoxie. While these places are close, they are not Kansas City proper or Kansas City at all. They are suburbs of Kansas City which means they don’t pay the taxes that cover most of these thrill-ride type projects. I for one am not interested in having more people come from these places. They shit on our City and then go home to their comfortable suburb almost tax free. Kansas City has got to stop these outsiders from using up our resources so that it’s citizens can have better access to public services. I would settle just having my trash picked up on a regular basis - and having good, drivable roads.

  14. The era of no money in KC is welcomed, this means no more funds spent on frivolous garbage.

  15. 8:31, don't forget, the reason for the downtown hotel was a payoff to Mike Burke, for not actually campaigning against Sly James. He actually tag-teamed to Sly's events rather that do his own! He is a shy development lawyer, and needed a project, so the trade was: go easy during the campaign, and I'll spiff you a hotel.

This time around, Jolie did not play nice with Quinton Lucas. So when he wins tomorrow, and he will, well she won't get a spiff.

She ran a poor campaign. Kay Barnes 2.0 Vapid. But meaner than Kay. She will be out of a job, other than her law firm job doing the pro bono work. She is a poor robotic speaker. During the debates and in her tweets, she uses all those business buzzwords like "unpack", "have a conversation", and "propel". Nobody speaks this way. And in debates, when she ran out of buzztalk, she started all over! Like a Chatty Cathy doll with the string in the back of her neck. (Oh, I'm showing my age now...) Just hidden by that red tent of an ill-fitting blazer.

Her political future looks bleak. She can't go backward to the Missouri legislature.
Maybe she can start a talk show on free radio, KKFI, "Let's Have a Conversation", with Jolie JustUs...a 3 minute tape loop that continually repeats and talks about her days in Jeff City. Because not even KCPT Ch 19 would program that.
