TKC MUST SEE!!! KANSAS CITY EFFORT TO REFORM MAYOR SLY'S IMAGE UNDERWAY!!!

In a total transformation, Mayor Sly James leaves office as a controversial, divisive and unpopular Kansas City elected official.

Pundits might argue for the Mayor's likability but overall most insiders admit that the city hall leader has been temperamental and uncompromising during his last couple of years in office.

Proof beyond cheap talk . . .

THE VOTER REBUKE OF MAYOR SLY'S PRE-K SALES TAX OFFERS EVIDENCE THAT RESIDENTS NO LONGER LOVE MAYOR SLY THEY WAY THEY ONCE DID!!!

At the height of his power Mayor James was able to pass all manner of high tax legislation whilst still enjoying the love of the public.

Now, local tourism organizations funded by taxpayers are the only group singing the praises of the politico as voters politely ignore the politico and look toward the future.

Here's the word . . .

"After eight years in office, there’s no questioning the undoubtedly positive impact that Mayor Sly James has made on the growth and prosperity of Kansas City’s still-booming maker culture."

Take a look:

  1. he was fun while he lasted.

Now he's finished and never came close to getting cleaver's job like he wanted. There's a reason he's so unpopular, after his reelection he didn't care much about KCMO and was completely focused on his connections in D.C.

    1. better title: the murder mayor get no love.

The homicide rate under his tenure has been one of the worse we've seen in decades. He never really has talked about it.

    2. I only voted for him once and I've disagreed with him more often than not over the past few years but you have to be objective as far as history goes:

      He built the streetcar.

      He built the convention hotel.

      He got the airport started.

That's a lot more than most mayors can put to their credit and I think everyone can objectively agree there was a lot of resistance to all of those projects. In the end, Sly James was a builder and nobody can deny that.

  2. The man was a worthless mayor, worst we have had in a very long time.

  3. He might have built a lot of things and started projects but the way he did it has endangered KC in the future and weakened our government.

  4. 12:24, yes he did those things, for which he deserves criticism more than approbation. He'll be rememberd as the mayor who spent way too much money on flashy frivolities and way too little on infrastructure and law enforcement.

Of course, after four years of Jolie or Quinton, we may look back fondly on Sly's reign.

"After eight years in office, there’s no questioning the undoubtedly positive impact that Mayor Sly James has made on the downfall and overall negativity that is in place in Kansas City today. Kansas City is a city in ruins with a tax load that has yet to see any reduction in it's continuous climb upward."

  6. If the city's debt is larger when you leave office than when you came it.... it qualifies you to be a conservative republican.

  7. Being ranked in the top 5 nationally for most dangerous town and top 10 for most in debt town will be very difficult for anybody to beat. This the type of momentum that will drive KCMO into bankruptcy within 5 years.

  8. Sylvester James on KC's Eastside:
Developers don't want to build east of Troost because there's a certain patina of distrust and entitlement among Eastside residents. Essentially, it's their own fault.

Sylvester James on KC's Brookside opposition to streetcar expansion:
No matter what project we're working on, there will always be difficult people that object and try to block progress.

Sylvester James on KC continuing to give away overly generous subsidies to the Cordish Company of Baltimore:
The Power and Light District deal was done under former Mayor Barnes, and we continued to subsidize 3 luxury high-rises with parking garages because we didn't want to stop the momentum.

Sylvester James on the subsidized downtown convention center hotel:
After I defeated Mike Burke for Mayor nearly 8 years ago, I agreed to support his hotel plans with heavy tax subsidies as a payback for not putting up much of a challenge.

Sylvester James on attempting to award a billion(+) dollar no-bid public infrastructure contract to his largest campaign contributor Burns and McDonnell:
Well of course, I along with Jolie and Troy, were secretly meeting with them to quickly ram this thing through before anyone else knew what was happening. Most of the Council members are stupid and timid, and I just tell them what to do and boss them around. As for local media, they carry our water and read our script or we threaten to shut them out of all communications. Chris Hernandez is a former newsie himself and he knows how to handle those prima dona Ken and Barbies.

  15. Sly should pay his own PR firm to clean up his image, don't see why KC Taxpayers are forced to do it.
