KANSAS CITY FRIDAY FACE-OFF!!! CITY MANAGER TROY SCHULTE OUT WITH QUINTON LUCAS BUT JOLIE JUSTUS LIKELY TO KEEP HIM!!! SHOULD HE STAY OR GO?!?!

The only real question that confronts Kansas City voters in the upcoming election is the fate of City Manager Troy Schulte.

The newspaper offered a milquetoast look at the question without much insight and let's not forget that back in February our blog community warned voters that the majority of the City Council want the manager gone.

Don't believe Troy's bluster about job frustration . . . This is the sweetest gig he'll ever get and running some po'dunk town in Iowa isn't going to be nearly as rewarding.

A quick note from insiders: "Behind closed doors Quinton Lucas has been saying he wants a new city manager. Jolie Justus has a good working relationship with Troy, she'd like to see him stay. Of course it's up to a full council vote . . . It's not a patronage position as some council members seem to suggest . . ."

Actually, the talk about getting rid of City Manager Troy Schulte isn't confined to closed door conversation: Most of the Quinton Lucas agenda has been in direct OPPOSITION to the development work done by the manager's office. Meanwhile, Jolie Justus campaigns on continuing the work of Mayor Sly James that has gone hand in hand with the City Manager's team.

More to the point and the real juxtaposition . . .

Downtown developers and Jolie Justus supporters want to keep Troy Schulte.

Urban core neighborhood activists look forward to the city manager ousted if Quinton Lucas takes power.

And so we ask . . .

HAS TROY SCHULTE SABOTAGED THE JOLIE JUSTUS CAMPAIGN FOR MAYOR?!?!

The contest looks close and carrying the baggage of a City Hall vet who has been around more than a decade might be too much for the council lady who took awhile to make up her mind about her campaign in the first place.

To be fair, the potential "Fall of Troy" might motivate Jolie Justus supporters to step up their support in what has been one of the most boring elections in modern Kansas City history.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. Jolie should dump Troy. It was a bad move to be so nice with his office in the first place.

Prediction: If she's serious about winning, she'll cut him loose.

      Correction:

It's not just the urban core activists who want him gone. There are plenty of residents in the Northland who don't want another 4 years of Schulte.

Look closely, Jolie is just Mayor James in drag.

    Think about it.

  6. Just like it won't make a bit of difference who gets elected mayor or to the council, whether Schulte stays or goes will have no impact on the upside-down priorities of KCMO city government.
The empty-headed clowns at 12th and Oak are merely facilitators for the folks who really run the town: developers and their attorneys; east side revs and other grifters; special interest "activists" like the bike nuts; consultants looking for six-figure contracts; and all the rest of the hangers-on, lobbyists, and insiders.
If city hall were completely emptied out, as long as the door to the treasury vault was open, the usual suspects would be as happy as can be.
    It never changes.

  8. Replacing at least 10 of the department heads is what needs to be done. Start with Public Works.

  10. When big development, Kansas residents and the those that benefit from the cash grab at city hall put their money behind Jolie it’s time to look elsewhere. The far south, east side and northland has had scraps for years while the big ticket expenditures have gone to the wealthy. There really isn’t a choice for the rest of us, but to vote against the current regime. Jolie is pleasant enough, but she is tied to Sly James and at this point cannot pivot from that position. Voters have to decide if more of the same is what they want. Lots of money will be spent in behalf of Jolie, the real question is will that be able to erase voter memories. We all have to vote and get our friends and families to do the same.

  11. Regardless of who becomes mayor, kcmo is screwed, big time!

  12. ^^^ Too much defeatist b.s. in here, replacing Troy would make a HUGE difference. Guy has let the city turn to trash on his watch. Potholes are worse than ever along with most underground infrastructure. A REAL city manager would have fought for improvements.

  13. Keep Jolie.

Lose Troy & Quinton and about 10 department heads.

  15. Troy should be fired based on the KCI Terminal procurement debacle alone! What a corrupt farce!! And Jolie & Slie were right there with him!!

  16. ^^^^ Absolutely correct @3:09.

I looked closely at the photos because the irony on this blog is sometimes too thick. The city manager is poised under a photo of the new convention hotel. How many hours did city staff work on that rather than take care of KCMO business? Our city has become an errand girl for developers rather than a place that looks out for residents first.

  17. Dump him Jolie!

We can't afford to have 4 years of Freedom, Inc. running city hall.

  18. I fear that the city's momentum may be slowing.

  19. The only reason Troy is still in office is because replacing him would be a nightmare. A lot of people in KC right now forget that the last guy was despised and replaced by way of a "palace coup" under weak mayor funkhouser. Picking the replacement will tear KC apart.

  20. Agree with some of the comments here, I believe that Jolie will realize that standing behind Troy will be a detriment to her campaign.

Is it sabotage? Maybe self sabotage but I don't fault a person or candidate for personal loyalty.

In the debates, look for Jolie to now say that she's "open" to replacing Troy.

Maybe Troy is sleeping better and making more money these days? Since the council folded up like weak sheep with his go ahead fire me blurb?
