UMKC 'Hate Speech Is Free Speech' Ignites Kansas City Metro Social Media Outrage

We noticed this one earlier in the week via social media and wanted to wait to see the real world reaction. UNews does an EXCEPTIONAL job of covering the controversy for these amateur pundits who will likely confront backlash for the rest of their lives. Take a look:

Student group sparks controversy with "hate speech is free speech" sign

UMKC's Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) club sparked strong reactions from students after tabling at the Miller Nichols Library Wednesday with a sign reading "Hate speech is free speech." After setting up their table, YAF members complained to the school that other students were harassing them for supporting hate speech.

Just what are the boundaries of hate speech? I say I like and should be allowed to keep and bear arms. Some may find that to be hate speech. I say I hate purple people. To some that would be hate speech. Or is it Freedom of Speech? I should as anyone else be allowed to say what's on our minds. But how you say it would be the determining factor of rather it's hate speech or simply an opinion. Now days it appears that being against or speaking out against something makes you the creator of hate speech or a hater. Just because you dislike something does not make you a hater. Hey, if I like a Chevy over a Ford, my saying so should not make me a hater or being accused of hate speech. But sadly that is about how ridiculous it has become.

Then we or those of us who have spoken of factual facts get labeled as saying hateful things or as some would view it, making a hate speech/being a hater.

The term "Hate Speech" is the new way for labeling anyone or one's opinion who might have the truth or facts to back up what they are saying, by the groups who can't come up with any other way to argue or refute the facts.

Yes hate speech is a part of Freedom of Speech. But it also does not make it right either or allowed it to be used simply to be a jerk to someone because you disagree with their concrete facts while yours wouldn't hold a single drop of water.

its not speech its a direct threat of violence and should be treated as such

^^^^^how do you know this? Like Dave just said, you're one of those jerks who has to resort to saying something nasty instead of any facts to back your statement.

2:51 - Even a direct threat of violence, without more, is protected by the first amendment.

The kids got it wrong. There is no such thing as hate speech. The whole concept of hate speech was dreamed up by uncaged academic postmodernists. Those are the same people who define their own violence as speech and others' speech as violence. Ignore them.

Speaking the truth about Blacks, Hispanics, Latinos, Asians, homosexuals, Jews, Israel, and questioning any aspect of the official Holocaust narrative are all "hate speech". Except on RT where truth is truth and deleting comments is looked upon as childish and cowardly.

@5:58 offer a really good reason to take these comments with a grain of salt.
