TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! SPRINT CAMPUS SOLD!!! OVERLAND PARK TELCOM JOB CUT MASSACRE COMING SOON!!!

Local outlets are reporting this inevitability as if it's "news" when the update was actually nothing more than just an e-mail that has been spammed far and wide.

The Friday job fear is actually a bit of foreshadowing . . .

THE SPRINT CAMPUS SOLD BRINGS TELCOM WORKERS ONE STEP CLOSER TO MASSIVE JOHNSON COUNTY JOB CUTS!!!

When it happens, I'm sure that it might also seem like "news" despite the fact our blog community has been talking about this heartbreak in the making for quiet some time.

Meanwhile, we can only be assured that local media will continue to carry press releases and happy talk both before and after these middle-class workers get the ax and learn all about income inequality in the first person.

KCTV5: Sprint announces agreement for sale of Overland Park campus

KSHB: Occidental Management, based in Wichita, will take over ownership in the “coming months,” according to a letter CEO Michel Combes sent to employees.

KCUR: Sprint employees will be concentrated in the southern end of the property, where Sprint CEO Michel Combes' email said the company will create "a new heart of the campus" centered on the 6200 Sprint Parkway building. His email stressed that the people in the company make up Sprint, not its buildings.

Fox4: Statement from Sprint, "Even though Sprint will no longer own the buildings there will be no change to the campus operations or processes."

  1. This is the last year for Sprint. It'll be sad to see it go.

    1. Change the name from the Sprint Center to the Sly James Center. That should make it right.

    2. Why wait. Move them out now. Sprint does not need two headquarters. The Overland Park offices are redundant.

There's our new prison! Maybe we can outsource it to Overland Park!

  4. Dude, Sprint is already only in a fraction of the campus buildings, the rest of it is leased out to other businesses. A sale was inevitable.

  5. That campus was doomed from the get-go. I don't believe Sprint ever had even 50% occupancy, though that was a seat of the pants feel rather than shareholder info.

    1. Agree. Worked here for years. Many floors and buildings have been vacant for a long time.

  9. Tony,
I consider myself a realist and Sprint has been unstable for years, but you seem to take some sort of pleasure in crowing about the misfortune that will probably affect people that are working there. Reporting the complex was sold and even predicting layoffs is one thing, but sensationalizing it (ie “Job Cut Massacre” is a little much doncha think?

  10. ^^ Not any worse than Go4KC saying KCMO is a vibrant, 25 million anally visitors, progressive town moving forward with great momentum while totally ignoring infrastructure in complete disarray.

LOL can we just ban the word "vibrant" before any more damage is done to society?

Vibrant is about as honest as internet outfits claiming It's Free.

  13. Bill Esrey screwed that place from top to bottom. He was the genius that talked the board into buying nextel and broke the place. Nextel was loaded with debt for a long time. Overland Park can blame that alone for this disaster. I love how we're all fed the bullshit that this will lower the price of cell service. Far from it.
