TKC READER: ACTIVIST CLAY CHASTAIN HURT HIS CANDIDACY WITH KANSAS CITY MAYORAL FORUM OUTBURST!!!

In the aftermath of the KCPT mayoral forum, most of our blog community noted that prolific petitioner Clay Chastain was the most captivating candidate.

However, in fairness, a recent note sent our way challenges this opinion and offers an alternative perspective . . .

GO4KC Seyz:

"TKC, if you claim to be a responsible media outlet I believe that it is imperative that you offer more room for discussion of Clay Chastain's recent outburst at the Kansas City forum conducted by KCPT. I call it an outburst because Mr. Chastain was the only candidate who raised his voice and shouted at the audience. Over and over he screamed "Did you know that?" and misrepresented facts about City Hall. He ranted against our daily newspaper and even City Hall security which serves to protect everyone who enters the building.

Clay challenged and wrongfully downplayed the "momentum" of Kansas City but I suggest we look at what the current administration has achieved and compare it with his record. Mayor Sly James and his supporters on the Council have established a streetcar that continues to grow, we have a new convention center hotel under construction and now the airport is a go. We are repairing sidewalks and working to make KC best in all of the nation. Meanwhile, Mr. Chastain has big plans that are nothing more than drawings he carries around to public meetings. In the past 8 years KCMO has moved beyond sketches to building a very real and thriving Downtown. Does Clay Chastain know that? Because even he admitted that he only lives in our city part time.

Luckily, all of the candidates in the real debate conducted themselves with far more professionalism. In particular, Councilmember Jolie Justus offered a clear and concise view of her achievements and what she will do as the next Mayor. More than anyone else it seems that Jolie is ready to keep up Kansas City's momentum and she seems like the right woman for the job. I advise your readers to look beyond mere rhetoric and see the real milestones our city has achieved as our momentum carries us beyond angry naysayers like Clay Chastain and into a bright future. "

For those who haven't seen it already, here's another look at the forum:

We clipped Mr. Chastain's remarks as well.

You decide . . .

  1. No doubt about it. Clay has them scared. He might end up making it to the primary after all.

    1. ^^^^ Somewhat agree.

That was not an "outburst" that was Clay speaking his truth. I may not agree with him but I defend his right to say it. This is still America after all.

  2. Clay won the debate. Did you know that?

  3. I had already decided to vote for Clay before that video was recorded. After I saw the video, I was ready to go door-to-door for him out of my own pocket, to help voters wake up to fucking LOGIC, for a change.

That clown car full of democrats that want to continue raping KC taxpayers is very nervous about Clay.

  4. Hey, at least he woke up the audience and got some real feedback, not just the golf claps.

  5. Thank you for including some but not all of my comment. What I think is most important is that voters know that Clay Chastain does not represent many or any people in KC. He is only out for his own agenda and rail dreams.

Meanwhile, a perfect candidate like Jolie Justus represents a broad spectrum of people from diverse backgrounds. Jolie is a real leader who doesn't have to rant and rave to get her point across. Look at the both of their performances that night and notice that Jolie was a model of civility and competence whereas Clay is no doubt very passionate about his beliefs but not ready to handle this kind of job.

  7. Yeah, I don’t think it hurt his campaign at all. Just like I disagree with the Ruckus panel on their last episode. Pat Mc-whoever said Sly James was well loved by the community - maybe in suburban and rural circles but not at all Kansas City proper. Most people don’t even know he’s Mayor. He’s done of lot of television junkets and if that’s all you ever listen and are influenced by - you’re not with the times at all, which would seem to be opposite. What you see on television is always behind the pace of the people. By the time it hits television... it’s already dated. Anyway, I support Clay. I don’t support Sly or Jolie Justus or Quinton Lucas. That’s the other thing Rob Who-ever on Ruckus was also out of touch. He thinks Jermaine Reed has a shot to become Mayor —- uh... in what world? I don’t trust him with a pack of chewing gum.

  8. The city should have a residency requirement for becoming mayor. Chastain has been in a pain in this towns ass for decades, even though he's living in Virginia for several years!
Remember, this is he same guy that wanted a mass-transit plan that included gondolas up to the Liberty Memorial, FFS!

  11. A story a few days ago reported that many of the candidates had not paid their taxes for the previous two years as required by the city charter. IF that is true, why are they still candidates?

  12. Hey gopher boy, is this “collusion” when your using city equipment and you speak only for Justus? Sounds like it to me, I’m going to, we all need to report you to the ethics hotline.

The City encourages employees and residents to call the Ethics Hotline at 1-800-340-3132 to file a complaint whenever wrongdoing is suspected.

  13. What’s the gopher have to say about the truly important things like say the current dangerous drinking water conditions? Nothing? He’s more concerned about pushing Justis into the mayors chair which is illegal by the way instead of the water us peons drink, unfuckingbelievable.

  14. Oh Tony if you claimed to be so smart and social media savvy dude you would post my stuff for your readers so I can explain how the great Sly our rock star mayor has been for our city and how nice and transparent he is and course everyone on his staff.. and the incredible Renaissance and rebirth of KC that Jolie will continue because she's so smart unlike your readers and that nasty Clay who has the nerve to raise his voice in what should have been nice pat us all the back for all the wonderful things we've done for KC forum...

  18. Bullshit is deep at city hall3/23/19, 4:11 PM

Gopher failed, notice the failed theme of the current city government, to mention what facts about the city were misrepresented. Slipped my mind that there was no misrepresentation of facts only truth was stated by Clay.

Oh, is it because he's a greasy, grimy Gopher gutless wonder?

His frequently touted catch phrases about the splendid shiny things and spectacular momentum are beyond worn. Plus, his stchik is happy talking while tap dancing for the corporate welfare masters. Gopher is NOT permitted to acknowledge that the MURDER MOMENTUM, MAINTENANCE FAILURES, UNDESIRABLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ,and UNNECESSARY TAXPAYERS' DEBT-BURDENS are the major FUBAR that need FIXING! Oh, sure, filling the Chamber's chummies pockets is foremost in what matters to this Gopher's puppeteers. He's just a MINION WITHOUT AN OPINION, because he's paid well to play the ventriloquist's DUMMY!

Clay is unconventional, but who else are you going to vote for?

Your other choices are either going to be one of Sly James' co-conspirators in creating the mess we are in, or a Real Estate Lawyer who has also been contributing to the thefts.

There are one or two others running, but they are even more "out there" than Chastain.

  30. Clay only said what taxpayers have been saying, sLIE and gopher only see and hear what they want. They both need psychiatric and eye doctor appts. Seriously, I’m not kidding.

  34. 6:46.. No.. he is spot on.
There are more comments on this blog than The Star’s exponentially.
The challenge is for those to call out what doesn’t work- namely politics.. specifically the failures of city government.
Bad water, pot holes, 1% Earnings tax (hurts the poor disproportionately), etc are just some of the failures of city gov’t.
This forum attempts to recognize and remedy via humor, insight, cognitions, etc is that we can gain insight and proportion and that one day we will overcome and call the BS that we see today for what it is. It’s a notion we are experiencing that one day will be looked back on as a colossal failure.. the current city gov’t.

  35. Oh did this ever get me too giggling. Glazers Yuk Yuk Shack never had comedy this good.

  36. The city is and has been an absolute mess. The airport show, the trolley, the crime, the roads, convention hotel, and all of Sly's multimillion dollar give aways to all his Leawood living developer pals.
Clay may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he is the only one talking about the issues facing all of us in KCMO. As punishment for that the Kansas City master class has embargoed him from all the mayoral debates, claiming that he is not a real candidate. I hope he does well in the primary.

  37. Just go home from Westport. Ward Parkway and SW Trafficway there and Warwick and Oak home. Gopher, if you don't think people are really pissed about all the potholes, you simply don't get out much.

A few weeks ago, gopher, you were saying the temperature had to be above 40 degrees to work on the potholes. It's above 40 now, so where are the pothole crews?

Let's examine why this is incorrect. Jolie is far from a perfect candidate. Her history at the City is the same as her history at the State. She is not a leader and she has accomplished nothing. She has one thing in common with Kay Barnes. She doesn't like to get her hands dirty. Watch her during meetings (watch Thursday's business session when budget items were being changed, for example). Justus was paying no attention whatsoever; she was either typing on her little computer or iPad or whatever she uses or texting on her phone. And she is does this at EVERY SINGLE MEETING! She passes off constituent complaints to staff and never deals with the issue or the constituent. She might have been elected to represent a broad spectrum of people but she doesn't represent them. She is simply a place holder in office, as she was in the Missouri Senate, soaking up contributions to buy her next office while accomplishing nothing in her current position. She got in the Mayor's race once, then Kander scared her away. Kander got out and she felt safe enough to get back in. We need a mayor that is tough, not one who is a lightweight.

This isn't personal against Justus. This is just facts based on observations and history. She has not been a good council person for the Fourth District. She will not be a good mayor for Kansas CIty.

  47. As far as residency requirements, Hillary, queen of democraps pretty much tossed those ideas to the wind when she ran for office in NEW YORK. She had never lived there before running for office.

  48. Has the smart city fixed it's potholes yet?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jolie is a bust. She did nothing on the crime commission, crime is at an all time high in the city. She tried to pad her own pocket by giving B&M the airport build at a private meeting, she wants to ban automobiles (what do all the people working at GM and Ford think of that? what about the car dealers and mechanics?) She is OK with late term partial birth abortion (Infanticide) ; killing babies in their mothers wombs at full term. Drilling a hole in the infants head and sucking their brains out. And Chris and Sly want her for mayor? Her support is the LBGTQ community. We know Cris and Jolie are gay but Sly?
