TKC FACT CHECK!!! KANSAS CITY 'MOMENTUM' IS MOSTLY HYPE!!!

Now in the WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT let's contemplate some disappointing economic data that was mostly overlooked or used to spin the "need" for even more Kansas City corporate handouts.

Decided . . .

EVEN LOCAL BIZ LEADERS NOW REALIZE THE PROMISE OF ECONOMIC "RENAISSANCE" SPARKED BY OVERWHELMING KANSAS CITY TAX BREAKS AND SUBSIDIES HAS BEEN UNREALIZED AFTER HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS TAXPAYER DOLLARS INVESTED!!!

A brief biblical illusion, the downtown dream is built on sand and local creative tech and biz leaders turn out to have feet of clay.

A bit of supporting data . . .

KCMO Wages FALL BEHIND The Metro

Gross regional product (2013 to 2017): Kansas City grew 5.7 percent, compared with 12.5 percent average growth of peer metros

KCMO Households Making LESS Money

Median household income (2014 to 2018): Kansas City grew 6 percent, compared with 8.3 percent average growth of peer metros

KCMO Job Growth FALLS Behind Metro

Quality jobs (2013 to 2017): Kansas City wages grew 7.8 percent, compared with 10.7 percent average growth of peer metros
#######

Unfortunately, the mistake here is that most everybody running for mayor seem to believe that OFFERING EVEN MORE handouts to suits who talk a good game about development and use buzzword-laced jargon is the answer.

Instead, voters are crying out for more attention to neighborhoods and PUTTING MORE POLICE ON KANSAS CITY STREETS whilst most of the candidates are too busy talking social justice, balancing corporate handouts with City Hall political extortion and continued speculative development as another recession looms.

  1. Hey now, nothing wrong with playing up your self interest. Looks like the "creative class" era is over in KC with Sly James. Now its time for good old fashioned threats: Give us money or the suburbs win!

    1. ^^^ It's about quality of life, home ownership and safe neighborhoods. Suburbs won some time in the 1980s and they've continued that reign since for decades. So much so that they're forced to keep moving further and further away from urban centers that are fading like KCMo.

    2. Not to worry. Green new deal is going to change all of this and bring us greater prosperity. AOC told me so and I believe it.

^^^ I'm no apologist for KC city hall but I will say we would be a lot better off if it wasn't for so many of these Johnson County developers and interlopers selling their pipe dreams locally. It's a self perpetuating scam and "KC Rising" is a big part of it.

  4. Yes yes I believe it too. AOC will help us. She's she's the Wizard and won't let us get on the plane that's a cookbook.

  5. ^^^^ I know you're kidding but it's sad to see that a lot of people feel that way. Sad.

As long as we have a dysfunctional school system, we will be left further and further behind peer communities. Uneducated populations result in high unemployable and crime levels.

However, after in excess of a billion dollars spent in recent years to improve KCPS, little progress has been made. Combine that with RACISM screamed anytime discipline is suggested, there's probably little chance for success.

Although not wholly Slie's fault, neither has he helped one tiny bit. Pre K is simply misdirection and an attempt to get his hands on more taxpayer dollars. Used to be a nice city. Too bad.

  8. I'm liberal as all fuck. But I know that the way KC is spending will send us the way of detroit. NO THANKS. Let's keep KC weird and keep it solvent.

  9. The new downtown outside art project will continue the KCMO momentum and miserably fail like the open spaces project in Swope park.

  14. A downtown baseball stadium would help development downtown. There's 81 guaranteed home games that bring people to spend downtown and that money's going nowhere because they play in some sort of meth woods that is the sports complex. Typically i'm against big money projects, but going downtown with baseball would help downtown, as it has in ever other city with downtown baseball. KCMO downtown is still pretty recent and sprint center is showing its age. It really needs a permanent shift to maintain downtown growth because right now the downtown situation is just a gimmick

  15. When they parade a bunch of blah blah types out and a few Streetcar advocates to talk about their genius designs (from Sanders partially) for the Streetcar to magically change things as lipstick on a pig would change. It is of course the momentum talk for perpetual subsidy. Don't let off the gas or it will crash, is more like it.

Clay is the right candidate for a fresh review.

  17. Does not help when with one money wasting name change you lower property values and future growth prospects along one of the cities oldest and most recognized boulevards.
