TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY GREEN NEW DEAL SUPPORTERS WANT TRAFFIC RESTRICTED ON MAIN IN SUPPORT OF STREETCAR!!!
The constant Kansas City war betwixt traffic vs. the streetcar is ramping up thanks to legislative inspiration from newbie Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
To wit . . .
THE GREEN NEW DEAL WAR AGAINST FOSSIL FUELS SPARKS RENEWED EFFORTS TO KICK CARS OFF KCMO MAIN STREET IN FAVOR OF THE TOY TRAIN!!!
A few years ago we noted the idea FIRST and then newsies picked it up.
Now the conversation has returned with a vengeance. A quick word about the plan:
"We're looking at a future with fewer cars and KC needs to lead that effort. With help from the Green New Deal we can move forward with making our downtown more friendly for mass transit and pedestrians. Limiting cars and clearing the streets of auto parking would not only create more lanes for e-scooters but would allow more space for downtown residents to really reclaim streets that have been dominated by energy wasting car traffic."
Consider . . .
Under the guise of "safety" the streetcar has already cracked down on parking, delivery drivers and even pedestrians. This effort will allow some East to West traffic but basically make Main St. a NO PARKING ZONE and remove North/South auto traffic.
Of course it's not a done deal but this note is important given a surprising level of green new deal support among the streetcar crowd along with urban planners both amateur & pro.

You decide . . .
There have been many "road diets" in KC. This wouldn't be the first. You should also note that the plan for the extension will also greatly reduce the amount of lanes for traffic into Midtown.
ReplyDeleteThat seems to be the Democratic Party plan.
DeleteCars for us.
But everyone else can take public transit or hop their ass onto a bicycle.
So she is going to take our pickup trucks after all?
ReplyDeleteMost major metropolitan cities limit car traffic in some part of their downtown areas. This is not a big deal boys, calm down. Actually, this is progress.
ReplyDeleteHey, here’s an idea, don’t go downtown. Duh
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea don’t go downtown or shop or spend any money
ReplyDeleteCan't we harness cow farts on mass scale and use it to heat homes or sumptin? It's like, you know, it's like..
ReplyDeleteDammit TKC stop triggering Pubs with pictures of AOC. You really, really hurt their feelings every time.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing going on Downtown that appeals to me. It's just another over rated hyped up dangerous mess like any other rust belt city.
ReplyDeleteTotal waste of taxpayer money. Slow as hell, uncomfortable, unreliable.
ReplyDeleteMuch like the backwards thinking morons cheer-leading the streetcar as progress.
Downtown and Midtown used to be a great place, friendly, confident, as many things to do as we promote now days, with no real traffic problems and then the Gen X implants came along and fucked everything up beyond repair.
ReplyDeleteHaven't crossed the f-----g river in over a year. Might miss an occasional concert but it just isn't worth the hassle nor the risk of having to shoot someone trying to mug me.
ReplyDeleteAlso shop Amazon or NKC or Gladstone to slightly assuage my anger over the way KC wastes money.
The litany of abuses by the shitty is too long to list here, but a small sample: Airport, Toy Train and more coming on that, MLK signage, pot holes Prevention, 18th & Vine, all infrastructure sacrificed to developers' interests, council junkets, and now talk of replacing a perfectly good stadium to f--k up downtown even more, Pre-K, talk of what will be a disastrous taking over trash removal by shitty employees, downsized police force and on and on and on.........
ROFLMAO this is the funniest thing I've ever seen recently.

ReplyDeleteTurns out the Lighthouse of Alexandria may have relied upon snake-oil!!!
I stay home to relax after the daily rat race but with a gun on the coffee table to blast any asshole who isn't suppose to be entering it.
ReplyDeleteWhen Mrs. Tits went to Washington, she should have STFU for a while and kept a rein on her arrogant self regard for a few months.
ReplyDeleteInstead, she is a cudgel employed by the Loyal Opposition, which is consigning her and her radical party to the level of a bumptious high school debate team.
My hopes, are, that she and other Progressives continue to act like uneducated buffoons whose grasp of policy and economics resembles the "Tulip Craze".
Next up for the Left, heavy investments in Cabbage Patch Dolls. What's in your wallet?
^^^Cash, unlike yours. You have an unused condom from 30 years ago in yours. Loser.
DeleteWhy doesn't the city just get with it and buy Electric buses? They are now in many cities and unlike the streetcar don't require special lanes, or restrict delivery trucks from parking within white painted street lines. They don't come to a stop when there is an accident, and they don't require overhead wires and rails in the street like the toy train does.
ReplyDeleteHope the businesses along the failed fair weather toy train route enjoying getting their deliveries, during fair weather, when the toy train operates.
ReplyDeleteActually, you idiots are wrong about most thing but if we take the cars off Main the businesses will enjoy more pedestrian traffic. It's about creating more jobs and economic opportunity, not your dumb and wasteful automobiles.
ReplyDelete@5:48 Speaking of idiots here this one is today's winner.

ReplyDeleteWho said this? I can't find this ludicrous quote anywhere.
6:00 One of our guys?
ReplyDeleteWasn't us
ReplyDeleteNope didn't say it.
ReplyDeleteNo try the next floor up where the unelecteds have their meetings.
ReplyDeleteNoper

ReplyDelete5:48: Are you Ripley from the Space X launch?
ReplyDeleteKansas citizens will nevar give up their cars, nope, won’t happen.
ReplyDelete"if we take the cars off Main the businesses will enjoy more pedestrian traffic. It's about creating more jobs and economic opportunity, not your dumb and wasteful automobiles."
ReplyDeleteIf you take cars off Main the businesses won't enjoy pedestrian or any other traffic. People will shop in the burbs where they can find a place to park. The only jobs and economic opportunities you'll be providing will be for bankruptcy attorneys and movers.
The is the 21st Century. Get over it.
Snow flake pinkos feel they have a right to not repay their student loans as college should have been free. Now that they are unemployed with their Gender Studies degrees and cannot afford a car they want those that can to share their pain. The Free Shit Army is coming, kill it with logic and register to vote if you haven't.
ReplyDeleteThe more this kind of airhead nonsense takes place in cities and towns across the country, the more likely the Democratic candidate for president will lose in 2020.
ReplyDeleteThe whole country isn't Brooklyn and the sanctimony and self-importance of Acasio-Cortez and her groupies really doesn't play very well with most regular folks who are trying to earn a living and raise their families and don't have the luxury of philosophical purity or time to try to run everyone else's lives.
The Dems allowing the kiddie corps to lead the way is a really bad idea.
@6:00 That quote probably came from the same outfit that made the 25 million anally poster for the city.
ReplyDeleteIt just shows how brainwashed these crazy people are the green people even the organization Greenpeace disagrees with them and calls them f****** morons. These people who has small businesses downtown who support the same groups like The chamber of commerce the downtown council the civil council are getting stabbed in the back if they close down the street they will lose their business. The worst of the green scum is the transit alliance. Don't care about anybody else but their own arrogant little self center ego justify thinking that they are Transit royalty. Sucking off the tits of the city fleeting the taxpayers for every cent they could get.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeletewho didn't see that coming??
I support the streetcar much more than automobiles that waste gas. Streetcar is cleaner and carries more people.
ReplyDeleteLets just close Fairfax and Claycomo.
ReplyDelete@8:24pm
ReplyDeleteTHE streetcar is powered by electricity which, in KCMO, is mostly provided by power plants that burn COAL.
Which rumor has it is a fossil fuel.
Surely someone somewhere is actually researching how these fanciful ideas are actually supposed to work.
Too funny!
Bicycles only. Must be made by recycled underwear. No cars, buses streetcars, airplanes. Everyone shall earn the same amount no matter what. No sugar, flour or yams. All clothing must be made with recycled tires. All women will be men and all underwear must be worn on the outside.
ReplyDelete^^^ Sounds right to me. I will sniff the seats to keep things on the up and up!
ReplyDelete^^^You mean on the down and dirty.
ReplyDeleteMajority of streetcar users park their suvs at the metro bus park n ride lot on 3rd street at grand, or at the Arabia lot on grand st 4th/5th, or at Wyandotte at about 4th, or some other spots I’m not familiar with. It is not transit. It is nostalgia.
ReplyDeleteMaking it harder for customers to reach the Main Street businesses is not progress.
Truth is the streetcar has cannibalized bus funding. Significant cuts to many routes since its advent. Weird bc it is hyped as interfacing with other transit modes yet the ATA has re routed all downtown routes away from main and onto Grand instead, and 10th and main stop is slated to close and be replaced by 12th and Charlotte one under construction.
I fear a fare hike is imminent the way ATA board is wasting money and chasing fads.
Thanks,
Radish
