KANSAS CITY TECH SCENE SOLUTION AMID SKYROCKETING RENT, FEWER JOBS AND RISING TAXES: LEARN TO CODE!!!

The 10-year-bull-market anniversary isn't really a big deal for those who were left behind by the so-called economic progress.

Meanwhile, here's a look at the economy starting to slow down for a great many reasons that aren't all political . . .

TPM: Trump Spins Dismal Jobs Report: ‘The Economy Is Very, Very Strong’

YF: Wall Street mulls sub-2% U.S. growth as consumers cut back on spending

FXN: Vought: Trump admin has put forth record spending reductions to get fiscal house in order

The plebs always try to spin these numbers and then forget about far more tense discussions about wage growth or lack thereof . . .

And then background for tonight's story . . .

"Learn to Code" is an expression used to mock journalists who were laid off from their jobs, encouraging them to learn software development as an alternate career path. The phrase was widely posted on Twitter following the announcement of layoffs at BuzzFeed and The Huffington Post in late January 2019.

And just now . . .

KANSAS CITY NEWSIES TOUT TONE-DEAF CODING HYPE DESPITE SO MANY UNFULFILLED PROMISES OF THE LOCAL TECH BUBBLE!!!

Take a look:

KCUR: Kansas City's Tech Market May Need Coding Skills Enough To Drop The B.S. ... Degree

Fair is fair . . . Maybe these newsies are subsidized by taxpayers and viewers like you so they've been insulated from real life even though most of them have have been cast of by real media organizations.

So maybe it's a reversal of fortune troll amid widespread newsie and journos who weren't as lucky to find a "public" patron . . .

Whatever the case . . .

Outsourcing is increasing and this time targets white collar workers.

While there is tough talk about imported H1-B workers, fact is even the Prez is pushing their interests:

Fox Biz: Trump floats citizenship for H1B visa holders

A more important real life news link that should inform this entire conversation:

Gilded Age 2.0: U.S. Income Inequality Increases to Pre-Great Depression Levels

And so . . . Denizens of the Kansas City discourse trade "learn to code" rhetoric given that they have a lot more time because they're not working.

Developing . . .

  1. reporting is a coding of sorts. You always have to factor in who is going to get pissed about a report. I think the KCUR guys can suppleiment their income nicely with coding work.

    Do it, to it!

    1. This post is bitter but I like it, because it is bitter.

    2. Problem with all of the coding stories in KC is that the journalists really don't know what they're talking about. Maintaining some bank or insurance company mainframe software isn't really "coding" in the classic sense. It's more database management and something that just requires certification. That's most of the run & gun jobs they're touting. It's good work but not always moves in cycles. I like the optiism and everybody can learn to code but not everybody can make a living at it. Just like most things.

  10. Never say, "Learn to code" to someone my age.

  11. Learn to code was used on journalists because that's what they told West Virginia coal miners to to after that region was hit hardest. There were many stories about how coal miners need to get with the times and learn to code

Then when all the journalists got laid off people told them the same thing. It was quite funny.

  12. It continues to be funny, even though it's ridiculous. Journalists will never be able to learn to code. It requires logical thinking. Maybe they can learn to bus tables.

And yet the J-Schools keep churning 'em out.

  13. What's really funny about this is that Japan is about to start releasing its 5th Generation Compilers that use fuzzy-logic trees to eliminate the need for coding.

The US has fallen so far behind the Real World that it's highly unlikely that we can catch up - be aware, "the Techno-Barbarians are at the Gates"!
